Option Stainless steal headers
Thursday, February 17, 2011 8:37 AM
I was looking online for headers for my '04 ecotec and i been finding all the same ones on every website the pacesetter, and the dc ceramic ones. Then i found that option made one and it says its for the 03-04 models but just 2.2l and nothing about ecotec where as pacesetter specifies it is for the ecotec. So i was just wondering if anyone with an ecotec is running the option racing headers and here the link i saw it on. Thank you in advance.

Your right it only works if you already had it opened but if you click home then do like make chevy model cavalier year 2004 a list of categories comes up and you can see it if you go to exhaust-headers. I would really appreciate it if you would give me some feed back.

That header has been around for a long time under many different names. I have it and love it some people don't like it, regardless it's annoying to install. It depends on what power your looking to make.

I'd recommend it all day every day.

Really you like it that much and how long of an installation. Do you think a couple hours and does it require any tube bending or just fitting it through everything is a hassel

Bleh, its just a tsudo. They really arent that good. sure they're 4-2-1 but they paired the wrong cylinders, and everyone has leaking issues with them.

Oh and the flex pipe's are junk. Just buy the coated pacesetter and be done with it.

Alright sounds good but is the armor coated that much better then the black one like is it a mandatory purchase. I know it helps with heat alot but if you don't get it do you have to worry about heat issues or not really.

Yes, the black paint will melt off in about 10 minutes and then the header will rust through in less than 2 years.

Any header has the potential to leak, this header has the 4-2 section the pace setter does not have which gives it more potential to leak. It doesnt matter what header you buy, the first time you attempt to install one it always takes forever. It may or may not line up to your old exhaust, might need some fabrication. The pace setter is a 4-1 which promotes higher rpm power but doesnt kill low end. the header you looked at is a 4-2-1 design which promotes midrange torque. If your engine is a daily driver and you dont have plans for a ported/polished head and big cams the 4-2-1 design theoretically is the better choice for your application. if your going to supercharge or flow a lot of air or plan on revving to high rpms a lot then the pace setter should be a better setup.

So if someone was to have plans for cams in the future or any kind of boost you suggest the 4-1 or pacesetter if you are just a daily driver no cams or boost you would suggest the 4-2-1 header or the one i found online granted it doesnt have a leaking problem but then again your saying most headers may leak or not line up with exhaust.

if your planning a mild build or leaving the internals stock the 4-2-1 header would be more beneficial and if your planning a major build then the 4-1 would be better. In my experience any header can leak at the collector if not properly installed. most headers dont line up exactly to the exhaust.

alright i see what your saying now i just have to make a decision thank you.

Mine never leaked and still doesn't leak, it's like anything else you have to do it right. We never got that point fully addressed last time. I think it's paired fine.

did yours line up with your exhaust okay or did it need to be fabricated and is the tsudo or what ever you want to call it that you own rusting or having heat issues?

All headers will be much hotter than before. I got mine ceramic coated because it was used pretty hard before I got it, but no rust at all. It lined up fine but no matter what header you get your going to have to cut and extend and tweak your exhaust, thats just the way it is.

just to point something out

the only motor in a J from 03 - 05 was the 2.2 ecotec... so if you see 2.2 and 03 - 05 it will always = ecotec...

i'd chime in, but my header was never made for the ecotec... but i will say if you ever plan to turbo, i'd advise getting a header. you'll have to replace it with the turbo manifold down the line

I have the rksport ceramic header. It was easy to install and
after 55 k the 4-2 section has a leak. Never had any other problems but it
Is a decent header. The header has slight rust too but to
Be expected. I just purchased a new tsudo header. Read the installation posts.
What people have done to prevent leaks....copper rtv, special locking washers etc.
Im going to follow those instructions and hope I have no problems. Installing next week.
Rksport header cost me 450 bucks in 2003. Not paying that again.

On my pacesetter ld9 ditched the @!#$ty ball/socketdp flange and welded a vband in place. I plan to do the same whenever I go with a pacesetter lsj 4-1.

Or I was thiinking about modding my ld9 header and welding on an eco flange. Does anyone know how differently spaced the ports/runners are from ld9 to l61?

Re: Option Stainless steal headers

I'm running that header, I got mine off ebay for $120 shipped. Granted when I got it the flanges were slightly warped (which few people probally check before install with a flat edge.) but I dropped it off at my machine shop and $90 later everything was cool, I've had it on for over a year now with no issues, and the only annoying thing about the install is you have to pull the valve cover to get the bigger part in, then the rest installs from below.

In a 1-3-4-2 firing order, if cylinders are to be paired, then cylinders 4&1 and 2&3 should be paired together. If this is not the case, then no they aren't paired fine.

Exactly, the pairings would be fine if this was the drivers (passengers?) side of a GM v8.
