another LD9 bites the dust

I hadn't wanted to swap engines in the vert yet but as I'm sitting here on the side of the highway at 200633.7 miles I think the engine bit the dust. It had a minor leak at the rear main seal and it has been progressivly getting worse to the point that a nasty spot of oil has accumulated on my driveway. I have been keeping up on checking the oil. I can't really hear what's going on due to the traffic goling by but it roughly idles at 4-600 rpm as if a cylinder or 2 are dead. If I try to accelerate it dies. I'm thinking the rear seal must have gone and taken some bearings with it.

So that being said my 01 engine with ported polished head, 2.3 LO intake and soon to be w41 cams will be going in as soon as I get my tax returns.

On a side note lately when the engine is cold it takes off rough for a split second the straightens out. I wonder if its an electrical issue, most of the related sensors are new though. Like I said I can't hear well because of all the passing traffic.

Sounds more like a bad coil or something.

Haha thanks! I knew the end was soon just would have been nice if it happened locally.

Yeah if it's still rough idling and the misfire code light is going off, more than likely its a blown coil pack. I had this happen to me although I could accelerate without the engine dying, it just sounded like there was not muffler. Either way goodluck!

Now that I can actually hear whats going on with the car the fuel pump isn't turning on. I replaced it last summer so it wasnt on the top of my list of things to go wrong. The rear main seal is still leaking like a siv but i think i got a few more miles to get out of the car. I really thought the engine bit the dust, it acted just like my old 86 cavy did when i spun a bearing. anyways I will post updates once i dig in more.

Also which pump would you recommend to replace it with? I dont feel I need a racetronix unless I put that in the Z and put the Z's pump in the vert.

Racetronix is the cheapest direct swapped pump. Unless you pull a stocker from junkyard.

I might just put one in the Z and put the stocker in the vert. 129 plus shipping for a racetronix. another 50 for the wiring harness should i feel the need for it.

ew no. from what i hear that thing is NOISY. and still not direct drop in. sure you could mod it like you did but why waste the time and risk. The w-body pump directly drops in and go pump. plus paired with the racetronix harness... you cant really go wrong.

i wish i would have thought of a way to put the racetronix pump back to factory power while on the dyno to see how different it is.

Lol it's not noisy at all and it's easy to do. Not saying it's the best option, just a nice one nonetheless
