i searched around and found a ll bit of info but needing some more help..... im wanting to build a mandrel single exit exhaust on my 2200 sunfire, it has a obx 4-2-1 header and i already have a muffler and a new cat converter for it as well, im planning to run 1/4" piping....
my question is what all bends and how many of each would i need? from what i've read i need 90 degree, 45 degree, and straight........ i plan on ordering from
http://performance-curve.com/mandrelbends.aspx its the same place i ordered the cat converter from....... thanks in advance for any advice
You would be better off taking it to a shop and having them make you one. All one piece is better that custom made and welded unless you are a very, very, very good welder.

Id have to argee. I was in the same boat acouple months back. Build my own from scratch or just buy a pre made system. For the amount of trouble to build your own, besides piping you need to make hangers, get a muffler etc. Its worth just getting a pre made system. OEM makes a cat back if you want to go that route, I think RD fabs does as well. They cost a bit but its worth it IMO. Either way you want to go with it is your choise obviously but id at least look into buying a pre made one if your not handy with the welder. Good luck!

ya i was gonna take it to a local shop to get it welded im not sure if they do mandrel bending there or not and im not sure if there are any around here that does so i might look into buying a pre made system.... just incase does anyone know how many of each bend ill need?
Here you go
You should be able to figure out what you need with those pics if you do build your own.
Custom tubes inc. cheapest pre-bent pipe-only you are going to find for our platform. You will have to give them a call though, as i no longer see jbodies on their site.
ok probably a dumb question but wats the difference in a mandrel bent exhaust and a crush bent exhaust? like wats the pros and cons of each
Here you go these pics should explain...theres really no benefit to crush bent except any exhaust shop can produce it where as for mandrel bends you need a special machine that most exhaust shops dont have.

so called around and only found one shop within 50 miles of me that does mandrel bending and they estimated me at $250-$300 for my exhaust! thats me supplying the muffler and cat and putting the header and down pipe on!!! looks like i'll probably just be doing the crush bent.... unless someone can tell me the angles i'll need to make my own? i looked at the link above and i couldnt really tell
Custom tube is cheaper than that shipped to the door by like half.
just pipes from CTI for 2.5 is like 135$ but you dont need mandrel. You wont see benefits to it until you're running very high hp. NA mandrel vs crush, maybe 1 whp lmao

ya i'll probably just go to the guy who did all my other exhausts, there crush bend but he said he'll only charge me $130, he's done 3 of my cars now

as much as i hate to agree he's pretty much right.
you'd have to be putting out quite a bit of power for the @!#$ty exhaust flow to really be holding you back. course, if you ever do decide that you want to make alot of power you'll be cursing yourself for having to do the same thing twice.
ya its a daily driver and my only car so it'll probably never see to much horsepower ever lol itsbasically gonna just be for the sound and the look
just stick a dynomax super turbo muffler on it then if your'e just going for sound
that and if he does go CTI it is mandrel

no no no. i didn't mean it like i hate to agree with phil or anything like that.
i just meant that i hate to tell someone they don't have to get the good performance type exhaust when we're discussing this in the performance forum lol. this site is always so geared towards not cheaping out and that's what all the newbs wanna do but honestly he has no reason to have to buy mandrel which is why i agreed.
Mandrel is a waste of your money. No offense but the ones that will benefit from it won't have to ask about it.

Personally I'd say crush bent is a waste of money. If you're going to get 2.5" crush bent you might as well just get 1.75" mandrel bent since it'll have just about the same airflow in the bends.

Well me personally would say fu(k all that noise and get a dump after the header, thats what I did so now when I'm looking to squeeze out everything I got, I pull and I'm open.
And you don't shrink 3/4" even for a 90 degree turn crush bent, it would be smaller but not that much.
