YES I KNOW! ANOTHER ONE!!!
but iv tried to look through the forms but there is 408 PAGES of topics... and all of the 2200 just say "Just turbo it dude, dont waste the money."
but my problem is i cant...
I CANT TURBO MY CAR!!!
Pops wont let me...
Id rather get a supercharger anyways.....
yes, everything has to go through my dad... im still in high school...
I have a budget around 2000...
just recently got a short ram.
What i want to know is what can i do to my cavalier???
I might supercharge it later down the road...
but for right now, what can i do???
my dad encourages me to work on the car, but he says no engine swap, no turbo, and no new car...
Yeahhh... ITS A VORTECH!!!

$2000 will get you almost every bolt on available, but it won't get you far. As for a SC, the cost to design and implement a decent setup will far outweigh what its worth. I would just tell Pops to lighten up and boost it. Good luck!
EDIT: I just looked at your profile, and it makes you out to be 20yrs old.... And you are still listening to Dad...... WoW....

P&P Tuning
420.5whp / 359.8wtq
If you are handy enough, you could possibly mount a centrifugal S/C in place of the A/C compressor..I don't know of anyone that has done it yet. Maybe it's not even possible..
You can get some decent parts, but they won't do much with the LN2. I say invest in HPT and internals

First off, what goals do you have in mind for your car? (i.e. high-powered dragster, corner carving auto-crosser, best damn lookin car around, some almagamation of the three, etc.)
Seems like your looking for power. My recommendation would be to either:
a. install all available bolt ons using your $2K (since as you said you can't boost it)
or
b. save your money, drive and maintain the car and when your ready purchase a better platform for your modification goals
Really it all depends on what you want to do with the car. There are a lot of other platforms out there that have a much larger aftermarket selection.
Available (power) bolt ons that I have found for the 2200 consist of intakes, throttle bodies, headers, high-flow catalytic converters, catalytic converter deletes, and cat-back exhausts.

P.S. If I had it to do over again I'd choose option b. above. Whatever you decide, I hope you have a blast doing it!

Actually i think id like to get it up to be a 'corner carving auto-crosser' with torque...
Being able to speed up really fast, quickly. where torque comes in...
whatever i can do to increase torque id love to do...

The great thing about your goal is allot of it has to do with the you (the driver). Theres your first mod (improving your technique/skill through practice). Once you get started with auto-x, if you haven't already, I'd imagine that you'd be more interested in upgrading your suspension. You can always use the mods I mentioned previously to improve torque. Unfortunately I have been unable to find a 4-2-1 header (better for low/midrange torque/power) for the 2200. One mod that would likely help is the B&M electronic shift improver for automatics or a short-throw shifter if you have manual. If you want to make sure as much power as possible gets to the wheels check out engine and transmission mounts.
Not to be a dick, but its a 2200 Automatic....you will be pissing your money away with bolt-ons. You could dump all $2000 into it and it will still be slower than a 2.4/Eco 5sp car. (unless you boost it of course)
I say, nice suspension, some wheels and call it a day.
Save the rest of the money for later on down the road on another project.

Where could i find these parts?
and any other torque improving mods???
appreciate it man...

If that's the case i'd start with the suspension. A good set of coil-overs(Teins, STDS, K&W, or B&Gs on good struts(not stock)) and a set of sway bars would be a very good start.
its an old concept. time for something new to take the reigns. - Z yaaaa

turbotechracing.com has a decent selection.
Nice find on the header, thanks!
You probably won't find allot more torque improving mods that don't involve tearing apart the engine. Maybe camshafts or a valve job.
awesome...
thanks for all the tips guys...

Oh, it's been done-on S-truck with the LN2-but there hasn't been much interest in it for even the company that developed the kit (Wynnjammer) to justify continuing producing it. I',m afraid turbo is your only choice for bolt-on forced-induction on the LN2.
So, you're 17-y/o... and you dad has final-say on performance improvements, eh? Sounds alot like what I went through with mine after the build-up of his '82 Chevy G-van. I suggested getting EFI & an 700R4 trans, he just said it's "Not justifiable...." Well, after the rod-bolts failed (He didn't listen to me there, either!) and he was forced to buy a newer van (An '89 Beauville) he learned I was right. "Heaven forbid the old-man should know something...", he'd say. "Well, heaven help us should the kid know of something better!" I came-back. And I did!
P.S.: The B&M Shift-Improver add-on is a POS... All it really does is increase your line-pressure. If you really want to improve the firmness of your shift-points, and raise or lower them, look into an HPTuner program & take a course in automatic-transmission service. Or get a good performance trans building shop to do it for you.
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
with 2000 do header, cat back,m magnaflow cat, suspesnion. done.
i dont see the point of putting anymore into it, that will mnake it fun but not a money pit
I say:
Header and full exhaust
Port the head
Tune it
If you can find someone to tune it for you (org member is probably the best option) you can save the $500 for HPT and have enough for suspension.

smartest man in this thread.
that and i just had to laugh at the "pops won't let me!" line. good stuff.
you know being under your dads supervision has to suck raw ass but just listen to what these guys has to say an all will be made clear. Good luck in your journey for power. Best thing you can do is take take a tally of the same advice given and use it as a cocencis (cant spell it) and you'll find your answer!
ughhh. i hate the 2200 :<
sadly, i'd prefer the 2.3 HSC cyl out of my old 1990 ford tempo...

Hate it all you want but some of us are doing some amazing things with it...
I like the idea of using the $2000 on a good suspension and some wheels BUT.... there are a lot of us on here that have stuff he could scoop up at a decent price and get a hell of a lot further. Ask yourself what you want to do beyond this $2000. Do you see your self swapping motors down the road?
Id start with the basic...
Front Strut bar
Rear Strut bat
Tein S-Tech's
KYB's all the way around
Motor Mounts
Intake - (AEM)
Pace Setter 4-1 (not 4-2-1)
Exhaust(Anything but Rksport/Magnaflow garbage)
OP send me a PM I might have some stuff for you cheap
BTW, WTF is a 2200 Vortech.... I had a Vortech 4.3L in my Blazer....
Josh I want to say the factory air box says that on the LN2, it's been years since I've had mine though so I can't be 100% sure.
OP- I would sugest working from the ground up on your car. You'll enjoy a slow car more if it handles well and can stop quickly than you would think. I'd keep an eye out for some used strut tower bars, front and rear swaybars, kyb agx struts, or pony up for some nice tein ss's. , pick up a K brace for the front sub frame. Then I'd convince your dad to let you do some autocross racing as it will help you control your car and I'm sure you'll have a blast with it around the cones. Plus a big benifit to doing the suspension stuff first is if you really like the J cars and you end up getting another 3rd gen you could swap all the parts over to an eco/ld9 car so you'll have some more power and your car will have the suspension out of the way already so you could look into engine mods for the next j asap....
As far as engine mods go and your budget.....the best place to spend any money would be spent on getting some head work done as thats the bottle neck that holds you back from making power with an LN2. Then worry about the exhaust, but you will need a tune to make the most out of the mods.
JUCNBST is correct... On all those points.
Yes, "2200 Vortec" was GM's way of dressing-up the image of the LN2. And it was on the air-inlet tract box located next to the throttle-body.
It's always more fun to try to go fast in a slow car than go slow in a fast car. It's an old adage... and quite true, I've found.
Plus, I've always personally felt it was best to work on being able to control the vehicle better first, then worry about making it quicker/faster. But always remember this: Ahot machine can't make-up for chitty skills. I've seen many cases of where although someone could afford the ride, it didn't mean they were truly worthy of it. Don'tlet this be you!
And... oddly... the head is the one place that needs addressing the most. Particularly on the exhaust side on the '98+ head.
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
