I grabbed the idi cover and coilpacks off of a Berreta GT.
The ICM off of the HO had less prongs then the LD9 so I had to use the LD9 icm.
I've noticed the car is sluggish in the low rpm range(less then 2500rpms) and then will get up and go after that.
So in 1st and 2nd it just tends to be slow in gaining speed, when it hits 3rd and gets past the 2500rpm range it starts to fly.
Is there a difference in the coilpacks since the HO icm doesn't work with the LD9?

The car is a 96' Z24 with 99' block and 96' head, Pacesetter header and aem intake, egr delete
if that makes any difference...

not sure if the coil packs are exactly the same but they are close. there is only one way to find out, put the 2.4L coil pack on and see what happens...
or you could totally do away with the quad coil setup and do the 2.2 coil swap and put some msd power to it
Don't have the stock 2.4 coils anymore, was running the dodge neon coilpack but one of the plug wires went bad and I had the HO coils laying around, guess I'll pick up some more plug wires and see if that changes.

What's your plug gaps on the spark plugs and what type of plugs are you using?
The coils from the LD9 are the same as the h.o. engine so really there's no difference.
I'm almost thinking that with the age of the coil packs you got from the older car that the coils have been heat soaked for too long and have become weak.
Once you start to go over the 2500rpm's, you're increasing your timing which would give you symptoms that you're describing.
Sluggishness can be caused by weak coils even though they're firing correctly.
Try hitting up the junkyard to see if you can get another set of the LD9 coil packs. This will tell you if the coils are your issue.
Good luck.

Thank you Dave and JBO!
You cant use the old HO coil packs and housing...the housing is probably black.
i had the same issue my self , as well as others. gotta use the newer set on a Jbody
You can use the black housing fine. Many have.

M45 + LD9 + 4T40-E, GO GO GO
not to thread jack but i have a similar issue... to begin with i had a permanent random misfire, and knock sensor circuit code. i replaced the ICM on Monday (with one from the junk yard), and so far the knock code hasn't come back (but i'll confirm this today) ... after replacing the ICM, i had the random misfire code pop up in the pending DTCs within 2 minutes after startup. So on tuesday i replaced the coils and boots and the plugs. The old coils were originial (10 years 130k ish miles), and the old boots were 5 years 50k ish miles and the plugs only had 8k miles on them (replaced them with the motor). All the new parts are AC Delco. The car runs a little smoother under 2500 (however my cams and no CPS are to blame for my issues under 2500 rpm) but still after 2 minutes after first start up (long before any of the new components could suffer from heat soak), i had a random misfire Pending DTC, however it took a whole day for the MIL to set (on my way home from work last night, so i'll scan it at work today).
the only thing i didnt replace was the white coil pack housing, how often do they go bad? right now i'm thinking if its not that, it has to be in my tune for why im getting misfire codes.
I'm surprised you didn't replace the housing too.
Replace it and see if the misfiring goes bye bye.
They do go bad over time and tend to arc causing misfires.

im almost wondering if not having a CPS might mess up the LD9 stuff.... who knows though.
why exactly doesnt a quad ICM work on an LD9? is the plug different? (ive never looked into it to even see, ive always just used the LD9 stuff and have never had issues)
Underdog Racing
different pin locations are probably the biggest part

I recommend never running a black housiong. Seen them go bad new after just a few days. Stockers (white ) last forever!!

I don't know if the later quad's have the newer style ICM, but the ld9 has two ignition control pins (A and B), whereas older ICM's (Quad4, LN2, TEC IV) only have one. I'm guessing the older ICM's had a latch that switched between the 1-4 and 2-3 coils, and the newer ICM just controls the coil directly.
I have no signiture
The 95 Quad ICM is nearly identical to the LD9 (by nearly i mean i dunno if the p/n is the same, but physically it is identical)
i replaced the housing today... still throwing random misfire codes... it hits pending within 2 minutes and takes about 2 days to set the MIL

I'll take a picture of the HO icm, its got a gel coat around it, and its got 3-4 prongs less then my LD9 icm has.

The 1995 Quad ICM is the same as the LD9.
