hello everyone .....i recently did a LD9 build on a 98 cav the motor has the 2.3 pump swap, 9:1 0.20 overbore wiseco pistons, eagle rods, shaved crank,1mm valves, bronze valve guides, mantapart stiffer valve springs, ARP head & Main studs, cometic head gasket, 2.3 intake manifold, i recently try to start the car on sunday it start fine but after 5 min the was oil liking from my intake and i really dont know from where it came from and i would really appreciate any suggestions on how to resolve the problem.
thank you very much for looking

How did you do your PVC setup? Did you drive in this 5 min or just let it idle?

well the PVC is like the regular setup there are to hoses one that goes to the intake and the other one goes to the timing case...for the other part it was first time starting the car after the build and i just let it idle

Judging by your user name your boosted so id have a look at this

Also If your running the stock set up you have a hose coming factory off your oil seperator (black plastic thing on the front of the block) this goes to your intake stock, your still routing it this way?

well the username says boosted but i recently sold my turbo setup i never installed i was in need of money....and yes im still routing it this way

Its possible your getting blow by, maybe the rings being new id asume are not seated just yet. Maybe someone els has another answer but thats about all I can think of at the moment. Sometimes you can tell if your getting blow by if you take your oil filler cap off and see if your getting lots of air coming out there. We just went through this on a friends build and it turned out after three attempts the rings were not the correct size, he was using ross pistons which I havent heard anything good about. After just a regular drive around his engine bay was soaked in oil. This third time a different guy did the motor build and it seems after a couple thousand km's the rings are finally seating. Sorry for the rant, hope it helps and good luck.
edit: We did a leak down test as well but it passed with flying colors each time. I forgot to ask how much oil is leaking out? We talking just a little bit or its pouring out?

well i took the oil filler cap off and there no air coming out from there..is sucking air
boostedz24
How much oil came out that caused the concern? Even from the factory you will get some oil in the intake pipe.

well ill say less then 1/2 of a quart...there is some oil on the intake and im guessing in the exhaust valves
boostedz24
I dont know what els to tell you. Maybe your having a blow by issue, any chance you can get a pic of your set up? Are you running a stock intake? Maybe take the vent tube and put it in a can and conferm if its coming from there?
"Straight roads are for fast cars, turns are for fast drivers"-Colin McRae
well im running the HO manifold
boostedz24
The HO mani blocks a vent on the head, there is a small hole in the center that is normaly vented through the pos plastic intake on the 96 up 2.4's. If you covered that up it may have something to do with your issue.

well my HO intake..i bought it from a member on this org and he drill a hole that connects direct to the hole on the head
boostedz24
Yea that was my intake manifold and the hole I drilled in it matches the open hole in the head.
Is there smoke coming from the exhaust?, if so what color is it?

Since the valves have oil there is some smoke and its white smoke
boostedz24
Oil is blue smoke.
Sounds like coolant...if its white.

Yep coolant is white when burned. Did you ever have the head off the block for any reason?
Still doesn't explain the oil in the intake though. Weird.

I'm beting there is no issue. You are going to get what looks like oil in the head, but usually not enough to mean anything. Just because your low on oil does not mean it went to the head. Motors use oil, and new motors usually do until broken in.

What type of heat gasket did you use? Could the head gasket have blown? White exhaust smoke would make me worried

mike: i never had the head off from the block...there is oil on my valves and i dont know the reason at first there was a black smoke after a couple min it dissapeared..then we found out that there was alot of oil coming from the intake and my spark plugs were cover in oil...i clean the plugs and start the car after that i start the car white smoke start coming out
dsm: i use the 5 layer cometic head gasket
boostedz24
How did you put the MLS headgasket on if you never took the head off the block?
If your sparkplugs are covered in oil, I think you have a head issue. Meaning maybe your valve stem seals are f'd up.

David i mean that i never had the head off from the block after the build....is there another way how the oil got to my intake
boostedz24
Are you sure the white smoke is not oil smoke. Oil smoke is a blueish white smoke and can be easily mistaken for white smoke.
FU Tuning
^Right, if you have oil on you spark plugs I bet that you are burning oil.
