AEM or Weapon-r air intake?
Monday, June 07, 2010 7:47 PM
I don't know which one to get.

The Weapon-r comes with a ram kit, a nice filter ( blue - my favorite color )

But, I heard AEM is a little better.

Which one should I get for my 2004 Cavalier LS Sport?

OR

Weapon-R?

What would perform better and sound better?

Neither is better, Unless you like spending a rediculous amount on a tube and a filter.

Get an ebay one. It will do the exact same thing for 1/4 of the price.

they dont have one for the eco but the one for the 2.4 will work fine, maybe alittle modding but its easy, and even comes with the blue filter you want

It also depends on if you want it to look good as well.

You can get the $30 eBay intake for the 2.4L and modify it to fit...

or you can spend the extra and get one that works the same, but looks a lot better.

I spent the extra ($160 shipped brand new) and I am happy with it. But I also like it to look good as well as perform good.

if i were you id buy both the weapon r and the aem and put them together to make a super cold air intake, works great imo.

I generally don't recommend buying ebay parts, but I would get an ebay CAI and a K&N filter

So, which one should I get for better performance? Should I make my own? Should I buy weapon-r, and then customize it?

They will both perform the SAME.The only difference is in the filter, and the finish of the tube. AEM is a dry flow filter while the Weapon R is an oiled filter. I've heard good things about both of them, but there are a few more people that like AEM over the Weapon R. In the end, it all comes down to how much you're willing to pay, and the style you're after (the one thing I will say about Weapon R is that they make a variety of styles of intakes so if you're after a certain look, I would check their range of finishes). If you still want one that will perform well and WILL be cheaper than both of those, I would get one from Cosmo Racing. In fact, that's what I did, and I quite like mine. You can even get it in blue if you want.

It says Non Ecotec. I have 2004, Ecotec 2.2.L

Would I have to modify it a bit?

The AEM CAI for the Ecos has such a horrible design....

Lets just put a ridiculous bend right next to the throttle body! Alright sweet!

I bought a 2.4 intake on ebay 2 days ago for my 04 sunfire. All you have to do is cut off the mounting bracket and presto.

Seriously, what is up with the bend near the throttle body. I can tell you this. I had an RK SPORT CHROME WAI, noticed the intake. When I got an AEM CAI, I noticed more top end, specially after 4500 rpm (car had I/E/H 62 mm TB/ crank pulley). Drove with the WAI and those mods for a while, switched to CAI AND 4th gear became my best gear for power (4800 rpm to 6500 rpm highway pull). Quality is decent, the WAI looked nice but it might as well been an ebay intake that I paid 200 bucks for from RKSPORT in 2002! - EBAY CAI compared to AEM CAI? I like quality; aem is probably going to be better in that dept. Spend the extra cash for AEM if you want, you know you'll get a good product if looks are important

It's a pipe... with bends. End of story Ebay or AEM... any differences in results will be negligible. Get an ebay CAI and K&N filter. Done like dinner.

Spend less cash for the same crap. I like that. However, I rather spend a little more cash to satisfy the unfortunate yearning for "nice" things. I'm spoiled. BUT, do what Kevo says or buy AEM used in decent condition or find a "great" deal for 150 shipped new? Saving some money; you can afford to get the "nicer" stuff, for not horrendous amounts more.

So basically everyone is saying I just get a cheap eBay intake, or make one, and it will be the same as AEM OR Weapon- R?
