Is it possible to change from a OBD to OBDII?
Saturday, June 05, 2010 2:56 PM
I have recently purchased the Garmin ecoRoute HD and it is an OBDII controlled device that shows real time gauge information, diagnostic codes etc.

It does not work on my '95 Chevrolet Cavalier 2.2 auto (duh, if I would have searched) however it confused me when I seen the OBDII port.

So my shot in the dark is converting my car to read OBDII depending on what is involved in this or returning the product back to garmin since I have 7 days to do so.

you'd have to swap computers, sensors, and the wiring harnesses.

Wait, 95 2.2 manual i think is obd1.5. They make an adapter to be able to be read by an obd1 scanner.

its all too got damn confusing. curse you gm for making things way harder than nessASSary.

cant you just un-plug the engine harness from the body harness and plug whatever the hell you want in?

The garmin unit is OBDII and it doesn't work in the 95 Cavalier.

However it did work in the 2007 Dodge Magnum which is my DD/Work Car.

I've tried several times, different ways and no luck. So I'm thinking it has got to be something with the OBDII on the 95's.

fairly certain, if you're talking about the big brick of wires n the driver's side, it has different pinouts. otherwise, no one would spend all the time it takes to repin the harness when going from 96 to 97.

cody star on here (the kid that bought the technic supercharger for the 2.4) has a 96... he wanted to be able to tune it via HP Tuners... 96 is unable to do this.

he went to the junk yard and got the entire engine harness and ecu for a 97 and it was plug and play and he was able to tune. no modification necessary whatsoever.

95 ohv manual is the one you can burn chips for. 95 ohv auto is S.O.L. (Not sure about the 2.4 auto or manual for '95)

96 is the half breed.

97 is obdII

All you need is the '97+ harness, sensors and pcm as stated. As far as I have seen, It all plugs right in.

actually... the 95 2.3 is neither a 'LO' or an 'HO'. it shares very little with either 2.3 to be completely honest. its a bastard.
