Hi, I'm having some issues with my car. basically whats going on is at idle on occasion it will sputter and drop the rpms to around 450-500 and then jump back up to 600. it does this until i get going and then usually it might do it a couple more times and then it stops. also it'll do it when i have my ac on at idle but much worse. then when I'm on the highway and i punch it it will sputter like hell and go forward but skip as it goes. its a 2.4l with magnaflow hiflow cat, 2 1/2 inch cat back exhaust dual outlet. its got a cheapo intake. the ignition is brand new except for the icm (new plugs, boots, packs etc.) also its got a new alt, pcm, and starter, and battery is still fine. i tested the icm and its perfectly fine. please help me.

did you ever replace the fuel filter and if so when?

I had a similar problem with my 2.4L last year. It did the same thing as yours but mine was also really hard to crank up. Turned out my Fuel Pressure Regulator was the problem. I agree with them though, check the fuel filter first.
did you check your fuel injectors? could have a leak i had the same prob...less severe but i had the initial idle drop. after i put new o-rings on them i was fine
as strang as it sounds but depending on milage, it could be valve seals. my 96 was doing the same thing, except for the the idle drop. i was getting a bit of blue smoke when i would mash the throttle at high rpms, and was getting a bit of oil on two of the plugs aswell. so off to the parts store for bottle of no smoke / stop leak. and the problem disapered. the only bad thing is it is going thru a lot of oil. now i have to let it warm up for a few minutes and then i have no problems. if i start it up and go it has the sputtering issue.
ya never know but i thought i would throw in my 2 cents.
