Well, am gonna be brief. I was reading parts of the general stickys, and i read were having a dual exhaust is a waste (in a sense) that it just all show. Well can anyone prove or tell me in facts that it is a waste besides the obvious fact that we only have 1 header. I just figured that the more i get out and in the engine is a productive way of creating more hp and tq...i dont know that just what i thought.. Next question! If you were to save up at least 10 grand, what would you spend it on (lets not say save it or invested it in a i.r.a and cds were talking about spending it!). Here's my delima i just started a new job (pay hellva lot more) and i was thinking about a car i always wanted..the ss turbo cobalt. Well I hop on chevy.com to take a peak at it again and am looking at the msrp.....24k...@!#$..... so let me place a money figure...say...10k..(random number). SO a 10k my payments would be 242 at 6.47% apr. That is a little to much and ill still have another 13k to make payments, and i dont think its worth it. SO want to have the hp of a turbo cobalt but am also scared of my engines reliability because the age/miles on my engine which is around 142k, which is why i was making that consideration...and the biggest plus is that its boosted by turbo
first off... dont blow that kind of money on one of these cars. at least not right at once... LOL
second, what engine?
Anything worth doing is worth over doing.
1) Conservation of mass. If the pipes are the same size after the split as before it, you're doubling the cross-sectional area, which will cut the airflow velocity in half. So, you're increasing "backpressure" over a single exit system.
Even if the pipes are sized properly after the split, you are still increasing frictional losses due to an increased cross-sectional perimeter versus a single exit. It also weighs more and costs more. In conclusion, it's "for show only".
Big-power V8's and such benefit from the low-profile of a true-dual system.
2) For 10k you could have a built, turbo'd, and tuned engine done for you and putting out 300+... However, like pretty much everyone else will tell you, for that much coin, you might want to look into starting with something else.
fortune cookie say: better a delay than a disaster
For z yaaa- i have the ld9. But i been doing some jbody research for maybe a short cut to getting boost, and i found the m62 or the saab kit. Am still doing the research and so far people are loving the saab set up. Am wondering how cheap is the set up and scene there no companys to back us u, i kinda figured ill try to make my own turbo set up. So with the first set and my mystery question can i just buy any turbo and then start buy the hook up parts and such
disregard this post i learned alot from search also am gonna do the saab turbo set-up which is a great set up and rather cheap. I just need to figure how-and were- everything being this is my first boosted vehicle so ever other post i put about me modding or whatever from now to later back you can disregard unless you can add into the installation of the turbo, but i dont have it yet so when i do ill let you guys know for help. other than that ill be a stocker and and live!...ps am tipsy as hell but i stand true to what i want to do!

saab kit is for eco cars.

sounds like he needs to keep searching
For 10k, you could by a car that's near or already at making 300hp, and learn how to actually work on a car while you're at it How? Simple!:
Buy a good, used V-8 F-body (Camaro/Firebird) or 5.0L Fox-chassis Mustang. The engine in those won't stress-out under making that kind of power, and the parts used or needed to make it will cost alot less than some turbo-kit. Best of all: It's rear-wheel-drive. No serious performance automaker (Mercedes, BMW, Porsche Ferrari & Lamborghini) would dare make a serious performance model that drives only the front wheels. And, since you probably never heard of it, only once was there ever a FWD-car run in the Indy-500... Guess how well it did? Here's a clue: How come it's never really been heard of? Exactly. Plus, you won't be looked at by the more commonly seen serious (Traditional) performance-automotive hobbyists some lowly, "F'n'f-ing" wannabe slot-rod drivin' ricer. That is, unless you want to be another P****-a** trend-chaser... Just like everyone else is doing.

wow now i know why the truth hurts. The saab set up is only for the eco!? wow thats @!#$ up. i guess its time for a new car then thats rear wheel drive. Am very sorry i love performance but i dont want to burn like 2 grand for just the turbo and another 2 or 4 for the whole set up and i thought the saab set up was my way out, that major depressing i honestly dont know what to do anymore besides getting another car guys. It takes to much to make the power i want for a NA car so well i guess i should just start saving and searching Mr.Dimer i used to like/love the firebird, it use to be my car of choice till i learn about power-to-weight but i guess i need to go back the way i came, but i love manuals and those are hard to find so as for the jbody forum you guys are thee most organized forum i ever seen and its full of professionals. I dont want to call it good bye but am gonna keep researching and i will always love my cavy no matter what i drive next. So ill see you guys when i see yall and ill still get my tune by hp and all but i just need more thats all thxs later! -jin
if you have 10k i would get an 03 350z

agreed, you can pick up a 98 camaro for about 8K or a 5.0 for around 2 or 3K both have a huge aftermaket and 5K in aftermaket put into a LS1 will easly run 12s

i wish i could get a 350z.. I ran into brick wall when i my son was born so now theres the infamous child-seat of doom. So i decided i wanted a car a car were i can have the best of both worlds, a car thats 4-door and boosted and is not in the 23k areas. So after a little searching on autotrader i found a car i used really like. The Subaru Wrx, its boosted and its 4-door and awd! and i can get for 8k so i figured thats a win! So what do you guys think? (your opinion really matters to me) thx
AWD Subies are cool with me... but to me, the WRX is a li'l too belly-button. I'd rather search-out a SVX (Preferred) or a XT (Second choice) if I were to own one. But in the case of family, I'd eye a Legacy or Outback Sport. Remembering how much was needed on trips when I was young, and how much was needed on trips helping a friend after he got kids (Good-God! We filled the full-size van!), you won't regret having the extra cargo space. Trust me.

2004 Subaru Forester XT all the way! Upgrade the intercooler, turbo and exhaust (downpipe especially). Then get a good tune. Good for 300AWHP! Plus its lighter than the STI's. Also the 04 STI suspension bolts right up. I've found some FXTs ranging from 8K all the way to 20K.
