I am replacing the timing chain on my older 2.2 . After replacing the head gasket noticed clinging noise from passenger side of motor near front rim. . I have never replaced one of these before. Any suggestions?
Use a GM tensioner over whatever they sell at the parts store. Haynes manual claims the oil pan has to be dropped, but in reality there are two studs that need to come out and the timing chain cover can be pulled with the oil pan in place.
And be sure to clean the hole in the small plug behind the cam gear. It supplies oil to the back of the gear.
