i am building my engine but i am stoped at the point of the chain tensioner because the haynes manual says to set the tensioner but i think the 01 is a hydraulic setup i am not sure i need your guys help here one area i really dont wanna mess up on

ok i got that figured out . i didnt unload it when it was installed but i got it to come out. now how hard should it be to turn the engine by hand?

Umm that depends on if the spark plugs are in...

Then it will be easy then.. Just grab a 1/2 socket wrench with your crank pully bolt socket and turn away

nother question guys the haynes book says to lot the oil slinger on the crank but here is my question i got two oil slingers in the felpro kit i bought and i dont know which one to use or is i was supposed to put another one on somewhere else please help me out guys

what does this oil slinger look like? i dont remember seeing that on my crank

ya know.. oil slinger.. on a brigs flat head 8HP...
i have yet to see a oil slinger in any of my GM cattolog pics for Quad-4's

I know what your talking about!!
Its the rubber gasket that goes INTO the timing housing cover down there over the crank.. You got the felpro kit, use the brown one..

Yes it goes over the gear. Its called the oil slinger gasket.
