Ive been pondering this ideas since it looks relitively easy and for around $125 i can have a 3" mandrel bent homeade intake compared to $200+ for a k&n or aem kit. has anyone else made a homeade cold air intake for their ecotec motors? im in the search for a 90* rubber elbow right now to go off the throtle body and i have a guy who makes intercooler tubing make the intake piping for me.

yeah im kinda going for what you posted in the pictures. but that intake has crush bends ill be using mandrel bends. also im gonna delete the stock air silencer box and go with a regular 90* rubber bend right from the throtle body.

Dont mean to be a dumba$$ here, but what is the "stock air silencer box"? I have an aem short ram on mine, and I am wondering if I have it or not...
98z24, lowered 2", aem intake, cat-back striaght pipes!, cop ligths in the front and rear, 18" liquid metal's, primer black, tint, full audio and video.
no your not a dumbass man. dont ever feel stupid to ask questions. thats how you learn. the stock air silencer box or thats what i call it anyways is the box in the pictures above that bolts to the throtle body, then the metal intake pipe bolts to that. but the air silencer box is a pretty good restriction. so if you remove that and put a simple 90* rubber elbow off the throtle body and connect that to the rest of the intake tubing.
Hey, you gonna make a air-collector piece for it also? You know, a scoop or open port that faces into the headwind the car sees while moving forward down the road, that directs air from said headwind to the filter containment area? What I mean is: Are you gonna make it a functional Fresh-air system? You might as well since you're going through so much to get a gain, since a good fresh-air system will make more of a difference than just a CAI. Many here have made one for their cars, each of differing designs, and they've seen results that they've data-logged that prove it worth-while.
