I plan on pulling the engine out of my sunfire and was wondering where the recommended lift points are for a 2.4.
I have a 2 ton engine hoist so thats not an issue, I just want to make sure that I dont cause any damage to my engine by lifting it from the wrong spot while pulling it out.
Any input is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Therese 2 steel rings in aposing corners, Use them. One is part of the Cast mount on your upper engine mount on the pass side, the other Is a Flange bolted to the cam tower in the opposing corner.
Hope that helps! If you cant find them let me know and Ill try and snap some pics tonight.
this might help
the driver side exhaust cam has the one, the pwr steering pump mounts on the driverside intake cam right behint it you will see the hole to hook on it
like was said the other is on the cast bracket for the upper mount (this part is bolted to the engine on the passenger side
if your leaving the trans in the car and your a 5spd you will have to pull the motor on an angle from the top offset the chain on the hoist for this
autos come out easier since they don't have the clutch on the flywheel and the torque converter will stay in th trans, if the 2.4 is like a 2.2 it will pull almost straight up without the angle
if your pulling the tranny too you will have to come out on an angle aswell

Yes i have a 5 spd.
I have a few more questions.
Since the subframe on my car is already cut from a previous tranny swap.
Would it be easier if I removed the tranny first?
Will the AC get int the way?
If so how do I go about dealing with the it?
Funds are extremely limited and so is space since I live in a condo and am attempting to do this in my parking spot.
Any input is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

if your leaving the tranny in then i would un bolt it all remove the flywheel dust shield from around the starter and up the back of the motor
unbolt the ac comressor from the motor leave the rest hooked up
also use the hoist to lift it the tranny will come up put a jack under it so it wont fall jack the hoist a few then the tranny or have a buddy do the trans and you do the engine once the crank pully is over the frame rail it should pop right out

i would pull tranny with the engine, after removing and reinstalling prolly 5 engines, i've seen its 5 times as easy to pull them both together. esp trying to get everything back in....
only thing is you gotta get everything at a good 45 degree angle or more to get it out easiest. the more vertical the engine and tranny, the easier it is to get it in and out. but i'm sure someone will disagree

I don't think I would ever pull another j engine without the tranny again! Not worth the amount of time I put into not pulling it!
i don't know some times the shafts are a dink to get out and then you have to go through the work to remove them entirely then refill the trans fluid its probably another 1 or 2 to do all that when if you jack the trans with the engine ones the crank pully is over the frame rail its out same if the trans is attached its not comin out till its over the frame rail
autos are so easy they pull right out 5spd little more involved i have done it both ways and the only reason i pulled the tranny with the motor was cause the tranny was comin out cause i couldn't use the 2.4 trans with my 3800 otherwise it would have stayed in, like if i had a 2000+ 2200 trans would have been left in

It sounds like your talking about leaving the tranny in then pulling the engine.
I meant completely removing the tranny first then pulling the engine.
I have no problem pulling the tranny as I've done it twice before and the subframe on this car is already cut.
Thanks for the replys.

Well if you are going to go thru all that, drop the subframe and pulling the tranny business, you might as well pull the motor out with it at the same time using the hoist to just lower the motor and tranny in a controlled manor.

agreed. i attempted pulling my tranny yesterday, and i dont like the was it was going, so i'm just gonna unhook the wiring to the engine and fuel lines, and slide her out the bottom
