Why would a cat-back system listed for 1998-2002 year models not work for a 97?

the exhaust hangers are in different spots, the piping itself is the same

oh, so thats no big deal.

usually people do entire exhaust system build ups, but how does a cat-back system only sound? i don't want anything very loud, but something mild and mean would be nice.

thanks

i don't know anything about it so you tell me.

a very affordable is the pacesetter but that's just based on price.

i'll fill out the profile now, but it's a 2.2 ohv.

doesn't matter what brand, every pre made exhaust is gonna sound like a pile of @!#$, its either bigger piping without a resonator and a fart can, or bigger piping with out resonator and an oval muffler thats to small.

I've never heard a premade catback that didn't make a cav sound like a riced out bag of dicks

a bag of dicks, huh?

so apparently you need to do the whole system to get something that sounds good. but how are you going to get something semi-quiet with that?

one person's idea of a ricey sound can differ from another's. as long as it's not embarassing, its fine.

my advise, get th cheapest exhaust you can find, throw the muffler in the garbage, pic out a legimate high flow muffler and add a resonator and you will be fine.

And don't go crazy with the pipe diameter! 2" is fine for an otherwise stock engine without a header, 2-1/4" with in most cases. And turbo'd, 2-1/2" max if you make only so-much power.

Go beyond the "bolt-on".

the key is to get a 22" resonator just after the cat....and a good sized oval muffler too (fart cans = @!#$)

Would you mind giving an example?

could easily just get one custom made for you if you can find a reputable shop. But i assume he is talking about getting the pacesetter cat-back and then toss the muffler out and getting a decent muffler such as a Magnaflow or Dynomax. I would suggest a resonator in there for sure otherwise it will sound like garbage.

I'm thinking getting one custom made would cost a lot of money. I'm not interested in sinking money into the car, or even trying to make it quicker... just want something that sounds nice and is cheap as far as these things go. How much welding is involved with installing a catalytic converter? Is it something I can get someone with little welding experience to do or something I need to take to a shop?
