2.2 Ecotec head gasket and 2.4 Ecotec head gasket
Wednesday, June 04, 2008 5:11 PM
Does anyone have pictures of a 2.2 Ecotec and a 2.4 Ecotec head gasket's? I know someone who used a 2.4 Ecotec head gasket on a 2.2 Ecotec. It appears he is having some oiling issues to the head. I'm sure it is because the gaskets are not the same, but I do nto know this for a fact. Can anyone say for sure, or have pictures of the 2 they can post?

I believe you're correct. I seem to remember PJ saying he was told by Maven on ecotecforums that the L61 and LSJ are mix-and-matchable, and the LE5 and the LNF are mix-and-matchable, but not the LE5 and the L61 or the LSJ and LNF, or any other combination thereof. I don't believe I ever heard the specific reason. You can try contacting PJ or Maven about it.

Maven is your best bet (he's a GM certified tech)

I was always under the impression that the oiling schemes of the ecotec engines were the same. I know the LSJ to the L61 is identical (although my engine hasn't run yet, the gasket didn't cover anything it wasn't supposed to.

the only difference I can think of the from the 2.4 to the 2.2 is the bore size. If he used a 2.4 ecotec headgasket on the 2.2, you may be getting cylinder leakage since the 2.4 has an 88mm bore vs the 2.2 86mm bore.

I'm pretty sure if you use the correct gasket for the block, you'd be ok.

this is just a straight L61 but with an LE5 headgasket?
