Installed the msd ignition last night and mounted it inside the car due to lack of space in the engine bay. I noticed that it has a constant tick. not real loud ,but when i have the radio off its kind of annoying. Can anyone lese confirm that this is normal??
Which MSD dis 2 do you have? It is normal to hear a discharge from the box whenever it creates a spark, but that is not a "click", and is usually drown out by the engine noise.
Its the 6112. the older style with the dip switches. If i had it in the engine bay, i would probably never hear it, but i have it in the car. i see you have yours on the firewall, which i cant do with my header right there. I was thinking it might just be the discharging of the spark, but i wanted to make sure since i bought it used.
Thats probably all it is....where do you have it mounted inside?? is it somewhere you can insulate the sound, and still keep amble air flow to cool the unit?
its on the passenger side floor up towards the dash. I have seen others mount it right under the dash no the drivers side, but i didnt want to hit my shin on it all the time. I couldnt mount it under the glovebox either because i have a changer in there and screws would go into it.
I think ill just live with it. its not often that i ride around w/o my stereo on anyways.
never experienced that in mine
there is a part that might remedy this MSD-8830, look it up on summit

Mine was mounted to the radiator support. Didn't seem to get in the way there. Not sure how well it'll work for you or if the intake or anything will be in the way, but it worked fine for me on the 2.2
that sound is normal for being mounted in the car. under the hood you never hear it
