97 and 00 LD9 cranks the same?
Saturday, April 12, 2008 3:09 PM
i was going to rebuild my engine in my 01 and my dad told me he has a 00 LD9 at work that i can have but it spun a rod bearing. he talked to the engine builder and said that these engines have weak bottom ends. told me i should use a crank out of one that hasnt spun any bearings. if i used the stock crank, the builder said it stands a good chance of going agian. my dad also has a engine out of a 97 that the timing chain apprently jumped and bent the valves but the crank is still good. can anyone tell me if they are the same. save me from tearing it apart for nothing. i was going to fully build the engine but time and money are becoming an issue. so im just gonna put it back together stock with a new bottom end. if anyone can help me out, it would be great.

thanks

I can't say 100% that the cranks are identical and swapable.

The flaw with the 2.4 is not the bottom end, but the oil pump. The fix is to install a pump from the 2.3 quad 4. It's my understanding that there is some machine work needed in order to make it work.

Sorry for the non answer, but it might take you in the right direction.

well ive been wrong before for the parts through the different years and thought i was right so i will hold my tongue on the GARENTEE that they are the same, but yes i do THINK they are.

as for the 'weakend' crank due to a spun rod bearing, well yes... but ive personally seen 3 engines that have been repaired due to spun bearings and ALL, yes ALL of the cranks had to be turned to be fixed. not one of them had a problem and they are all running fine to this day. one has over 75,000 on it, another 45,000 and mine in my white z, only 5000.

Rollin' on question marks since 07.
