i have a question about the ecotec why does the cobalt ecotec for 2005,2006 have 145 hp and the 2007 ecotec in the cobalt has an hp rating of 149 hp what makes the difference oppposed to the cavalier ecotec with 140 hp what parts were added to make the extra hp in the cobalt or was gm underrating the hp for the cavalier and maybe it really has 149 hp
The power steering pump was replaced with an electric one as opposed to the L61 where it runs off the intake cam.
so getting rid of the power steering will net 9 crank hp,? doubt it. if thats true then lets find a way to do it!
Well we can start with the obvious, both the intake and the exhaust systems are different, also i do beleive they use different TB(pretty sure they are electronic insted of cable opperated), whether or not they are any bigger i do not know.
That plus removing the cam powered power steering pump could generate 9 Crank Horse Power.
On a side note, GM started SAE cerifing thier HP numbers, which year im not sure but that could also be a factor.
just remembered some of the 07 cobalts have SRI, can't remember what it means, it some emissions thing that has a tube from the manifold to the valve cover or something like that. but it was easier for them to use the 2.0 lsj manifold to do this instead of the regular l61 mainfold, the lsj has much larger openings on the inlet side and a much better collector without the d shape in it, it also has slightly smother bends in it than the l61 manifold, that could be the difference in hp as well, form the 06-07 year ratings, although not all 07's had this.
So can we run a cobalts power steering setup and then I'd be able to do the MSD distibutor?
hte cobalt 2.2 eco also have a bigger throttle body
