Anyone with a CAI getting a lean code on their Ecotec 2.2?
Tuesday, December 04, 2007 8:07 PM
I have heard so many times from 2.2 Cobalt owners that they get lean codes from their CAI installs. I have a Cobalt, but will stay clear of a CAI until HP tuners comes out with programming for it first.

Anyways, my wife's 03 Sunfire has just the drop in K&N filter and I am tempted to go with a CAI on it. It is also a 2.2 Ecotec, but it is not the drive by wire like my Cobalt and supposedly there are slight other differences physically and computer wise. Maybe these differences I am hoping will allow the 03 Sunfire to have a CAI without throwing a lean code.

Anyone here getting lean codes on their 03 Ecotecs with a CAI?

Thanks...

had a wai and cai since 02 , never had any codes , in the g/fs 02 eco

the J's do not have MAF sensors like the cobalts have , so no issues with codes

did you disconnect the battery to let the computer re-learn?

you don't need to disconnect your battery to have a car relearn on speed density...
Chances are you have a Vac leak somewhere. But it IS possible, that the car is that sensitive. It would be nice if you could flash it.

Or honestly, in this silly case, it might actually be an ok idea to do those Ebay Resistor mods. Reason being all it does is alter the table a bit and shows the air being really cold, so it automatically adds justr a splash more fuel.

Hell I am getting lean codes from time to time on a completely stock engine.....Just replaced the front 02 sensor though....old one looked fine, but maybe it was just acting a lil crazy.

no that is not a good idea. ive seen people wiht mazdaspeeds have leaner conditions when they put a CAI on the car. it has to do wiht the MAF
