Who's got the strongest n/a 2.4? ld9
Wednesday, November 28, 2007 3:27 PM
I'm curious what the highest HP rating, on a custom hybrid 2.4. ld9

is it possible to get into the 250 hp range on an n/a build

not running jet fuel either

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120187188140

check that link out (scroll to the bottom) some guy claims to have a GM test engine that puts out 250

it looks like a 2.4 with an 086 head and bored out

This could very well be incomplete:

LD9 N/A
1. Karo - 259 hp - DynoJet - LD9 NA
2. Brian aka SpeedRacerZ - 171 hp - Dynojet - LD9 N/A
3. Paul Tjepkes (N/A MADNESS) - 165 - LD9 N/A
4. Mike, -MD-LD9 - 159.8 - Mustang - LD9 N/A
5. Jason McFly - 157 hp 171ft-lbs - Mustang - LD9 N/A
6. John Higgins - 151.46 hp - Dynojet - LD9 N/A
7. z yaaaa - 151.4 hp - Dynojet - LD9 N/A

could be, but most likely just a 95 motor with a 2.4L ignition cover.

Are you asking bhp or whp? Regardless, 250 whp would be a cake walk. 250 whp AND being streetable is something entrely different though.

Notice my little disclamor Brad. Making a 2.4L streetable (which incorporates the mass majority of J-body owners) is what holds most people back. Run c116 with 13-14:1 compression on an 086 head with .500" lift or higher just for starts. And mind you Karo made that kind of power with HO cams and a SAFC. The largest problem would be that no one really knows what the LD9 can rev out to with its somewhat long throw. Therefore, logic dictates:

250whp in a 2.4L motor = cakewalk.

lol yes man i hear ya... BUT... i still dont see it as being easy. oh and where are you finding these .500 lift cams???

and maybe a different 2.4l but not an ld9 would it be easy on

i think that list needs to be updated..since i made 180whp 160tq on stock tune

LD9 N/A
1. Karo - 259 hp - DynoJet - LD9 NA
2. Scott - Section8cav -180hp 160tq - dynojet -hybrid
3. Brian aka SpeedRacerZ - 171 hp - Dynojet - LD9 N/A
4. Paul Tjepkes (N/A MADNESS) - 165 - LD9 N/A
5. Mike, -MD-LD9 - 159.8 - Mustang - LD9 N/A
6. Jason McFly - 157 hp 171ft-lbs - Mustang - LD9 N/A
7. John Higgins - 151.46 hp - Dynojet - LD9 N/A
8. z yaaaa - 151.4 hp - Dynojet - LD9 N/A

there..thats better

chances are gm rated this motor at 250 crank horsepower not wheel horsepower. 250 crank is around 210 wheel horse, so yes probably do able. I don't think I believe that motor has that though. S2k's have 240 streetable horse with 9000 rpm and a 11.0 cr to play with. I don't think that motor he has is anything special.

I'd have to guess with the cost he is asking he is trying to get back what he purchased in parts. The car even run it supposedly has a burnt up valve or thats what the guy say's. The block setting next to the guy's feet say's its a 2.3 you can see it if you look at it. I would be weary of this deal just for the simple fact that the guy thinks its a 2.4 bored. I'm guessing the other engine is a 95 2.3 hence it has a power steering pump. In my opinion its just too much money it woldnt be so bad if he fixed it and then sold it with everything there, for a lesser cost.

250whp is by no means easy.

For the cost its just cheaper to go boost and easily make 250whp for a lesser cost than N/A.

Also my ranking on the N/A list will be moving up soon. better watch out lol.

Re: Who's got the strongest n/a 2.4? ld9

I don't see anything in his ad that makes his engine anything special.
It is a 2.3, nothing in the ad is a 2.4.

I think the guy is just confused, his "250" is really the standard W41- 210 crank hp. I think the guy is really just clueless and making guesses as opposed to outright lying.

KARO alone????

250whp from a 2.4 isn't easy by any means except one ---- it can be done and still be a "streetable" creation.
It does not have to be an all out race only creation.
And since 250+whp is actually 300ish crank hp with 148c.i. the fact that it can be streetable makes the 2.4 really impressive.

But as to how easy the build is, it took me like 6 months of making parts and assembling that engine to "easily build it.

Also, there was a guy in canada, Mike something, that built an NA 2.4 that was about 240whp when I last saw it at the last bash at lordstown.

So there are at least 2 high power, NA 2.4s out there for sure.

Ha ha ha.
When will people learn that the 086 is not as great as rumored. The 2.4 is the superior head. But I'm sure the promoters of the HO 2.3 intake will continue to believe the 086 is also better because "it looks bigger".

Also the slowfire had tons more than HO cams and an SAFC. On the tuning front, it had a custom chip and 95 PCM. The SAFC was just there to fine tune it in the field.

From the bench flows I've seen, the 086 well outperforms all other quad and TC heads at higher lift. That's the point.

Im very curious as to what else was done to the engine. I hear it was a higher CR motor but what were the specs.... If its secret i understand but im curious.

yes, i agree tom... i wasnt around much back then and would love to know more about the slowfire, i think a lot of people would.

todd- i didnt mean it was the ONLY car out there with those kind of numbers, i just meant its basically the only one everybody seems to know about and it gets referred to A LOT on this site. id also like to hear more about the 2.4 head being superior to the 086, seriously.

I think the 95 ECM makes things "little" easier for tuning.

i am very impressed with all the things i can change with it.

HPT is just @!#$y compared to a the $36!

Yeah, I think the head is still available, and the intake mani..... but no one would want to pay Induction Dynamics prices.
The RSM cams would be really hard to come by, they were really expensive. The cams had the hex drive machined in and came with the towers already modified to handle that kind of lift. Basicly they were W41s with the mods already done to bolt on to the 2.4 head.

Ya at the bottom theres a 2.4 with HO manifolds. Theres isn't a belt driven power steering pump.

the w41 had it's specs rated at the crank and it was like 190 @7500 not 210
