Couple Engine Swap questions
Sunday, November 04, 2007 8:36 PM
Okay I am hoping by late spring early summer to be ready to do a eco transplant in my cavalier. I have a remote start/ alarm system on my car and I see that there are a couple wires that are run to the engine from the unit. Should I just have the system removed then re installed where I purchased it? Also would there be anything that you would suggest doing maitnence wise to the eco and auto trans once I get them in the car. I dont have anything yet but I am not sure what all I should do. Part of me wants to stick with the OHV just for the simplicity of just going turbo with the hahn kit and calling it a day. But I really want to go with a Eco and supercharge it since it's all gm parts. Do you think with the remote start and alarm that they would tap into much of the cars PCM harness compared to the BCM harness?

How is it you can do an engine swap yourself, but you can't install a security system? They require much of the same technical knowledge. You will have to disconnect the wires leading to the engine after removing the battery (taking whatever precautions necessary b/c of the security system - some will go off when the battery is removed or tampered with).

First to Rob. I have done 3 Ecotec swaps, but I can't install a alarm. Plug and play is different from wiring.

TO the poster: Seeing as your car is a 00+ your swap is really easy. YOur alarm should only be wired under the dash. If so you will only be changing stuff in the engine bay. We just did a Ecotec swap on a 2200 that had a alarm. Only thing from it in the engine bay was the horn/speaker. You should be fine.

I noticed a wire that was tapped into the coil. I'm guess that might be a tach signal for the remote start though.

yeah that one wire is the tach signal for the remote starter.....just be sure to connect that wire to the tach signal for the new engine and you will be all set
