Looking for parts to build my ecotec.. help..
Monday, October 29, 2007 3:16 PM
I have a blown motor in my cavalier right now and I have a bare block, I plan on taking off the head of my old motor, assuming the valves arent bent..

I went to GM today and got a price for some main bearings and I got #12591092 that ran me 18$ and then I got a quote on some connecting rod bearing for nearly the same price, is the quote for 18$ for one bearing or for the set? The reason I ask is because I seen a clevite set for the eco 2.2 was like 300+$

other than that... is there a rebuild kit with all the bearings etc? Will I need new balance shaft bearings?

I'm just looking for a list of parts I will need.

well typically you don't go and buy bearings that your gonna use, the machine shop/engine builder will order bearings after whatever machining is needed and then measure to get the proper bearing sizes. If its all apart yes you should replace the balance shaft bearings, you may not NEED to but you should and I would at least replace the oil pump while your in there.

I dont think I will have anything machined, the block is brand new, never ran before.
I dont know if I want to delete the BS or not, how much is the delete kit?

the delete kit is either $75 or $175 (can't remember) from levelzero. Personally the neutral balance shafts from GM are the way to go (I chose them over the delete)

for the amount of power you gain from balance shafts I wouldn't waste the 175 removing them, you may gain 5 or 6 hp

^^ hes right

don't waste money buying intakes, or exhausts, or pulleys, for the same $ if not more... none of them are worth it. Small gains don't add up
