My name is Jason Beck and I'm new here on the forum. I race 4 cyl. oval track cars and I have a 91 cavalier with a 93 ln2 2.2 motor in it. I'm looking for any possible speed gains you guys can think of. Let me first say, aftermarket parts are pretty much out. The class is supposed to be a "stock" class and if something looks obviously different they will disqualify us. However, parts that look stock, parts I can modify myself and parts that come off of different models of car are more likely to work for me. I've raced fords and dodges but this is my first J-Body. I've heard from some of the guys different things they claim to have done... 2.0 heads, shaved heads, 3.1 V6 rods, different throttle bodies etc. I just didn't know if there was a hot setup or if any of these things are even possible.
Thanks for the help,
Jason
p.s. is there any difference between the 91-93 cavalier engines and the 94-96.. are they swapable?
the downpipe is a major restriction on those cars .... also a swap to a 94 and up block (roller cam) will help ..... maby some roler rockers 1.7 ratio .if they dont look that closely the head can easaly b port and polish to gain some nums ..... mill the head a little copper hg ..... if i rem the throtlebody is big enough for na ....... maby some tuning the pistons from diff years have diff weights and some have diff cc dishes(raise comp) check this thread

Doesn't the 93 still have the 120hp? He's not gonna get any more power by swapping engines.
The 1.6 roller rockers are a decent mod.
was up sho .... na i think the 93 has the 105 or what ever ... because i know it still has the flat tappet cam (i have one).
the 94 and up had the roller cam and the more aggressive (for our cars anyway lol) cam and tune witch netted the 120 hp ....
