Intake manifold fitment issues
Thursday, August 02, 2007 8:10 AM
Okay I just got word from the guy at the machine shop where I took my block to swap in some wiesco pistons and eagle rods that the High Output Intake manifold is NO GOOD!!! When I received it in the mail I did question the modification done to the ports on the runners in cause that they did not match up to the head. I did not feel that it was such a problem that could not be fixed. I stoped by the machine shop to show the guy the manifold and the head and he claimed it wont seal. So now Im uncertain in what I should do. I wrote to those bastards @ mantapart still waiting on a response. Ive been thinking how I should fix it. One way I thought was to go to the junkyard and buy any Quad 4 intake manifold and weld off the flange from it and weld it on to my HIGH OUTPUT manifold then do the correct modifications that mantapart lacked. Or should I buy that phelonic spacer and work from there. Also I want to make a mold of the plastic intake manifold but I was told it would cost 300 bucks(if this is the best way so be it) This has really got me bumbed out because I DONT WANNA USE THE FACTORY TWIN CAM PLASTIC INTAKE MANIFOLD!! So please help guyz thankz

Why don't you want to use the factory manifold? It sounds like the machine shop just does not want to do any work.

Sounds like another Mantapart @!#$ up. How are those guys still around? I guess anyone who gets screwed by them kinda deserves it at this point with all the posts about them and the horrid rating on the BBB. A little search woulda saved you a TON of headaches.

They are probably correct. Honestly with all issues with Mantapart is has never been product quality, but getting the product. Mantapart has been selling the manifolds since before the adapter flange. Then the only correct way to do the swap was to port match the head and manifold.

As long as the manifold mounts to the head, then you should be ok.

I don't know what your machine shop meant.

But some folks don't port the intake at all and are running with it fine.
Even with my ghettofied porting on my first cavi, I didnt get any leak issue that the 2.3 gaskets couldn't handle.

So yeah, I remember from your pics in the other post, Manta didn't do the greatest of porting on the openings.
But as long as the mounting is good, then you should still be able to use it.

I bought my HO mani and t.b. with the ports 90% finished but it also came with the 2.3 gaskets and the phenolic spacer.I actually installed it incorrectly by placing the spacer on the head then the modified gasket
and used gasket sealer to hold the other 2.3 gasket to the HO mani.So far no real problems other than getting a little hesitation off the line and a 2-300 or so rpm spike when I am at 45 mph, but that could be other issues

Okay see they could have done a better job of port matching the runners to the head. Does Team Green sell 2.4 intake flanges?

only place i would suggest getting those o-rings would be to go through gm itself, i cant imagine them being that expensive. although im sure you could come up with something yourself, IMO the gm's would be your best bet.

I dont right now..... sorry.

Any pics of your manifold? What is it that the mechanic says is wrong with the manifold? As far as I've ever seen, Mantaparts "2.4 HO Manifold" was a 2.3HO mani that they cut the head flange off of, and welded a 2.4 flange on...... not sure how you can get that wrong. I guess you could weld it on upside down.....

What was the part number on those O-rings? Some GMPD action could knock a few bucks off of that dealer barebackin that you got.

the part number is 88960489 o-ring seal kit....which is only 1 ring...not the four like it sounds like...you would think seal kit meant all 4, atleast i did! but you get some pretty gm stickers..lol!
