i have a 2.2 motor and i was wanting to kinda get a list of all the "free mods" there are out there for our cars thanks
its hard to make power form the 2.2 spending money, your not gonna make @!#$ for free.
the only real "free mod" for you car is to get a lot of seat time and learn to drive it as well as you can... that can be worth more than nitrous or a turbo in some cases.... Other than that though, you can try removing interior components. In all reality, theres no totally free mods that really do enough to be worth the effort behind them. I mean, you can port the heads yourself, but then you still have to pay for gaskets, porting materials, tools, etc., and then you need tuning to get the most out of it... and all of that is $$$. My best advice to you is, save your money and while you're saving take the time to read a lot, do a lot of research and come up with a specific goal and method to accomplish it. You can build a fast car for a lot cheaper than a lot of people if you take the time to learn about things first, and do things right the first time instead of taking the cheap way out initially and having to redo it later.

Remove the intake resonator, get an A/C delete belt, and relocate your IAT sensor. Those are the only things I can think of, but you won't really notice a difference other than the car sounding different.
thanks for the replies now i wanted to boost or nitrous....whats your opinion on what i should do ??
Normally, I'm not like that when it comes to these sorts of things...but considering the first question about free mods, and now the question about boost or nitrous, I'm not just saying it for the reason that a lot of people do (not feeling like helping out) but rather TO help you out. It seems you don't know much at all about these (or maybe any) cars and if you start messing with your engine trying to do things for free to make your car faster, or (god forbid) boosting it or adding nitrous, you're most likely going to blow stuff up. Do some research, at least get some specific questions, and think about what you want your car to do (and I checked your registry, please tell me you don't just want to make your car into The Fast and the Furious 4 with the "racing" comment). And realize, to do it right, your car isn't going to be fast for cheap. At a minimum, for any decent power gain (I'm talking ~75 whp gain) you will probably be spending around $1000, and that would be for a nitrous kit and some accessories for said kit. On top of that amount a full exhaust to help scavenge the hotter exhaust gasses would be a good idea and that would run you at least another $500 (at a minimum, and all these numbers are assuming you can do the work on your own). If you don't have the money for those kinds of mods, well, then go out and get a job and start saving.
get a 125 shot of nos....you'll be OUT!!

just curious, how does relocating the iat sensor help in performance? oh yea, no such things as free mods.
Weight reduction is about the only "free" mod you can get out of a j-body.

"Youth in Asia"...I don't see anything wrong with that.
I once heard if you turn your spark plug so that the gap is lined up facing the fuel injector, you can gain some power. Never tried it, so I don't know if it works or not.

if you relocate it somewhere other than in the warm engine bay (where there's cooler air, i.e. fender well) it tricks the computer into thinking that the engine is getting colder air than it actually is, so it ups the amount of gas it injects to compensate...
pretty worthless mod though, cause the computer figures out that it's running too rich and cuts back on the amount of gas it's using, so any gains from it are lost quickly.
Research is probably the best thing that you can do thats free... Take a long time researching and when you finally know enough about what you want to do to the car, you can have saved the money to do so. Scarab said it better than me tho, And as he also said, learning to drive the car to get the most performance out of it is the best thing you can do.
Remember what the wrench in Mad Max said, to paraphrase: Speed is just a question of money. At how quick of a rate do you wish to move?
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
