Ok, i have a sunbird.. and i am planning on deburring the block, and bottom end tomarrow.. and i have read up alot, and just think i would feel better asking you guys as well.. from what i have read, it says i can use 400-600 grit sandpaper?? also.. is deburring basically just getting rid of all the sharp edges?? I was also wanting to polish the rods and pistons... what would be the process on that?? from what i have read, i got the deburring right.. and as far as pistons.. i have read just round off the "crown" of it.. the top anyway... but how do i get the polished finish on them?? i hope you guys can help me.. thanks in advance to all

You are correct about deburring. It refers to smoothing out any sharp edges.

As far as polishing the rods...WHY? I can understand why you may want the tops of the pistons to a polished finish, but unless you are running a clear plastic block with clear oil, I really don't see the point of going through the work of polishing the rods, when it will do nothing for performance, reliability or aesthetics.

and about polishing pistons and rods, i heard that if you do it, it will keep temps. down.... and also, someone said it would be a good idea to debeam, deburr, polish and shot peen the rods to run more boost on them...

ok, i attempted some of it today... i used 100 grit and 150 grit sandpaper, as thats all i had... ill post pics tomarrow if you could tell me if it looks ok?? i think its fine.. but just wanna see from someone that would know better.. thanks..

Does this look ok?? also... is there anything else i could do besides just casting flaws?? like what edges are there to round off... im not sure which ones are ok to do... and a guy also told me that if you sand down the walls of the block.. it would help too.. can anyone confirm this? thanks in advance for help...
