Intake woes - Cosmo
Friday, April 27, 2007 6:52 PM
Recently purchased a Cosmo intake blindly with no research, so bad on me, but how did any of you with it get it installed? The L-bracket on the intake that is supposed to attached to the bolt on the brake reservoir is to far forward so the intake sits above and behind the throttle body, as in more towards the valve cover. Wont even come close to the TB and Cosmo will not refund my money... They told me to bend the intake which I did and now I can't get the battery back into the tray because, again, the bracket is to far out causing the tube to sit over the battery tray.

Should I cut my losses, fight it, or sell it for cheap and just buy from a reputable company ie. RK Sport or AEM?

Throw it in the garbage, and buy an RK or AEM. Learn from this. Just my $.02.

No sense buying a more expensive intake, Id just make the one you have work. It can still be pretty, just takes a little more work.

if you got the money saved for the intake, get the real deal. so i guess, the better choice would always be to buy a cheapo and fight with it. yeah, smart! it's not about $200 on a 2 hp increase, it's about 200 dollars done right the first time with NO headache and complaints

lol. this thread makes me laugh. i should throw away my garbage cosmo intake and go buy an aem for three times the price i payed. I don't know why your having problems. the one for my ohv fit fine. there are situations where paying a little more is a smart idea, but i will never agree with the typical intake hype. its a tube with a filter on the end. they are all the same thing. its a pretty ineffective mod for our cars anyways. it shouldn't cost more then 50 dollars. I hope you get it figured out instead of wasting money on another one. pics would really help.

Let me repeat what lemur just said... A PIECE OF PIPE WITH A FILTER ON THE END. Anyone who pays over $100 for that, no matter how damn pretty it is, or how easy it installs, may as well drive down the highway and toss it out the window instead.

Wow fellas, simmah down now!

I must be that bad apple then, cause mine will take some work to get on there.

BMXludwig, it's not the matter of I dont know how, its the matter of it doesnt fit. Ive got a picture, albeit a camera phone one but Ill post up in a few. Lucky for me though that my neighbor in Seattle is a fellow tuner that will be able to help solve this dilemma.

I am proof that ebay is your friend. I got my intake for my eco for about 20 bucks. Just ordered the intake for a z24 and it fits perfect. its a piece of aluminum with a filter on the end you pay more than 100 bucks like jay said your nuts. this isnt a turbo here folks its a piece of aluminum lol. Don't bash ebay....just you need to know how to use ebay.

Matrix: Fit Fine
AEM: Fit Wonderfully
Injen: Fit has been 50 / 50 at least on Eco's I have installed. Like to hit hood. Never had a Problem on a 2.4 though.
K&N: Right on Par
Ebay's: About 75% fit "OK", brackets need a little bump.
Custom: Depends
Induction Dynamics: Fit like a GLOVE!
Fujita: Pretty good, had to play a little.
Iceman: little tweaking, nothing major.
Airaid: Fits SWEET.
CGS: On par

I think that covers it for me.

I gave them a call the other day demanding my money back, but all the smug french dude would say was that I would need to bend the bracket a little. Well, after I shoved the bracket into the tube denting it, still no go. The dumb person on the other end of the phone wouldn't believe what I was trying to tell him about the bracket being in the wrong spot. Heres the proof.

Looking down on the TB, not only is it over the TB, its more towards the valve cover, hitting the TB cable bracket.

Doesn't clear the battery. Instructions say to remove battery then reinstall after intake is on. Well, I had to install the battery first, and now I cant put the positive back on, not to mention the filter hit the fuse box and/or strut tower.

Sitting way to high for my lakes.

Serious work is needed to even get close, but Id rather spend the money now and get a intake that goes straight on. Dont question my mechanical skill. COSMO is a fraud.

lol..... save the tubing and stuff, i am sure you might be able to use it later on if you go with a different setup or a car. Just buy another one from another ebay seller, no sense in losing sleep over an intake.

dude, cut the stupid bracket off.

take a look at the picture you posted with the battery in it. cut bracket, rotate 5 degrees couter clockwise and boom will fit like a charm.

get the fitment right with the rubber elbow they gave you that goes on the tb and it will sit on it but not force the throttle open. let me give you a little insight for new comers....the org is here to Assist you, if people were climbing out of pc's to do work for people I would have ordered my nitrous and turbo set ups loooong time ago lol.
