Lightweight Crank Pulley
Tuesday, April 24, 2007 6:25 PM
Hey all, I dont want to thread jack MD-LD9's thread about the lightweight pulleys.

Im wondering what kind of gains I should expect from a pulley. I would get both the ALT and the crank pulleys. I have a 2200 motor with all the bolt-ons, bigger throttle body, 1.6 roller rockers, soon to have ported head.

What kind of gain does it give? Where would it give it? Low end? top end? Im expecting it to be minimal, But im curious nonetheless

thanks!

I just did mine on Saturday...........love'm, my power comes on smoothly and just overall Rev's faster, quicker throttle response was noted. when ran on 2 different butt dynos, it seemed to be a tad quicker, it seems really smooth. but this is on a 2.4 I say go with them.
I have a few bolts ons:
Cold air Intake
Header
full exhaust/high flow cat
secret cams
UR pulley
AEM alt pulley
no/ac

really? i didnt expect it to be too noticible. Smoother I like, and better throttle response is a plus.

how much of a weight difference are we talking about with the one you have? whats stock versus the lightened one?

smoother response is the biggest notice, I dont remember the exact weights its the UnOrthodox racing crank vs stock, I think MD-LD9 has all the specs

okay i searched the weight, stock 4lbs 7 oz (like a small newborn baby) UnOrthodox 14oz so thats quite a difference when you think about the rotation mass at 6,000 rpm

if i have aftermarket speakers and headunit installed (nothing crazy) would i still be ok if i got pulleys? i want them but i dont wanna give up the little bit of audio i got. i am also thinking of putting the 4 speakers on an amp later on. should any of this make a difference? thanx

I have a head unit that cranks 50 watts and F&R speakers with RMS power handling in the 22-28 watt range (I can't remember exactly). The underdrive pulley hasn't impeded my power metal listening time...ever.

Underdriven pulleys can affect large systems. Some claim to have problems with medium and small systems, some say they have no problems.

i have an rsm underdrive crank pulley installed, a 180amp alternator AND upped stock idle from 600 to 800rpms...as well as the big 3 wiring upgrade and an optima red top battery. and my dome light and dash lights dim pretty bad at idle, so what does that tell ya?

honestly, im saying screw the underdrive stuff... go with stock sized, underdriving stuff doesnt gain much at all anways, md ld9 dyno'd 8whp with his stock sized crank and alt pulleys, "this is why im hot" enough said.

md ld9, get those pulleys up soon man!!!! im in desperate need!

Yes they will work well for you regardless of what your application is. Most the horsepower "recovered" from underdrive pullies is due to the reduced weight of the pulley its self, and not much from the underdrive action. Just get an aluminum crank pulley instead of underdrive ones. You will experience decent recoveries.

(I am referring to any horsepower increases as "recoveries" because you are simply making your engine more efficient by reducing the rotational mass. You aren't really gaining anything, just recovering what horsepower your engine already had.)

where can you get them at. i never seen the ones for the 2200, they are always for the 2.4. i have the 2200 in a 1999. where can i get crank, water pump, alternator, and power steering pulley?

No one makes, to my knowledge, power steering or water pump pulley. I "WILL" be making an alternator and crank pulley for the 2200's.
