2.4 Swap(for a friend) questions
Wednesday, March 07, 2007 12:38 PM
ok my friend has a 97 z24 that the engine blew in... he recently found a 99 2.4 motor. i dont know much about the 2.4 so i cant really say a whole lot. i do know that the 97 has an egr and the 99 does not.

oso my question in will the 99 2.4 drop into the 97 z without much problem... and how about the egr?

btw what does the egr do exactly... thanks fellas.

It will fit fine. Use all the 97 sensors, wires, and injectors. You'll need a drill and tap to correct the knock sensor hole.
99 has smaller knock sensor than 98-96 LD9s. You all of the 97 EGR stuff, it will bolt to the 99 block fine.

EGR is Exhaust-gas Recirculation. It plain terms it cuts down on NOx emissions.

Order 11516479 self-taping screw for knock Sensor......

100% correct, the 96-98 LD9 is just like the 99+ LD9's, other then the hole for the knock sensor... Remove the knock sensor from the old engine, and head down to the hardware store to pick up a tap (and corrisponding drill bit) that match the threads on the stock knock sensor. Drill and tap the hole. Screw old Knock Sensor into hole. Put engine in car, reuse ALL parts from the old engine (intake, exhaust)

IDK where you get that from...... the 96-98 Knock sensor is all one piece, the 99+ is 2 piece, but the bolt comes with the sensor......

Do not know, I just remember that part number & knock sensor for some reason.
