2.4 LD9 vs. 2.2 eco
Friday, December 22, 2006 12:15 PM
I have a manual '96 sunfire with the LD9 right now, but it has 210,000 kms. on it so I'm going to be looking for something with less mileage in the next couple of months. I have a few simple mods right now: air intake, headers, exhaust and mufflers. The vehicle I'll be looking for will be either a Cavalier or Sunfire with less than 100,000 kms., but my question is... with a few simple mods, would it be a better idea to go for an older LD9 or should I try and get a car with the 2.2L ecotec? Not really too concerned about gas mileage differences or anything, but which of the two would deliver the quickest acceleration with the same mods?

The 2.4 will be the easiest and cheapest swap. To put the eco in, you need to swap over the transmission, mounts (if changing to a 5 speed), cables (if changing to a 5 speed), bcm, ecu, axles (if you go to a 5 speed), cluster, most of the wiring in the car, etc.

I might have confused you guys. I'm not planning on doing a swap, but rather purchasing a new cav/sun with lower mileage. My question is, with which engine would I get the best performance with a few simple mods?

From one LD9 owner to another...Go Ecotec. Lighter block and far more aftermarket support.

Eco. I know if my 2.4 ever decides to go to hell. I'll swap Eco.

LD9/2.4 FTW

the Eco is poo........

For the most part, they have equal aftermarket parts....... all the same bolt ons, only the Eco comes out on top with Mass Produced ported heads, and Forged crank shafts...... which only the crazy spend $1200 on a damn head...... I barly spent more then that building my full engine!
