if i just put on the aem alternator what am i going to get out of it i know there are other posts on similar topics but not just this one so if anyone has any comments it would be appreciated
i never new AEM made alternators...you talking about pullys?
yea that is what i am talking about sorry for the confusion
Do you have an under-drive pulley. AA lotof people use the AEM pulley with an under-drive pulley to keep the alternator spinning close to stock rpms.

whoa whoa whoa whoa here....
so your saying that by having a underdrive pulley on a 2.4... that FOR A FACT, the ALTERNATOR spins slower?!
i myself have a 2.3 ho crank pulley on my engine... jeasus...no frickn wonder my stereo CUTS out at idle!!
my LORD, i have been trying to solve this dilemma forever! i always thought that by having the AEM alt. pulley on the alt. it would spin it slower...freeing up some HP.
so, the AEM is acctually designed to spin the ALT. faster? not to free anything up?
is it lighter than the stock alt. pulley?
reason im so concerned it because i acctually have an AEM pulley and never wanted to put it on due to the fact that i figured it would hurt my power output of my alt.
tell me this... i just bought an underdrive RSM crank pulley, so if i put that on, AND the aem... the alt. will acctually be at around stock for charging?
im confused!
ok i have a alternator pulley right now and yes it is the aem type but i gam having no problems with my electronics at all. yes it is bigger but it puts out enough.
^^^ just buy the pulleys from-MD- LD9 and call it a day...lighter then stock he dynoed something like 8 hp and stock sizing...done and done..phil

you have to be kidding me..... do you just buy random @!#$ not knowing what it does? its an UNDERDRIVE pulley, meaning they change the size to UNDERDRIVE all of the accesories on the belt.... anything belt driven will turn slower then stock which robs less hp then stock..... which is the entire point of an underive pulley.
/\ yep
i also did an a/c delete while i was at it (mostly cause it didnt work),i had the cavalier connection set(do they still exist?) it felt a tad quicker on the butt dyno...not much though, i got mine for free , i dont see it as a mod thats worth the money honestly

I do not sell under-driven pulleys just lightweight stock sized alternator and crank pulleys.

darkstars... i do research before i buy anything.. so please dont get the idea that i dont.
im sorry, i didnt realize that buying an underdriven CRANK pulley would effect anything but the crank. but its nice to know why in the hell my stereo wont work properly.
anybody know if the 2.3 HO crank pulley is the same size as the RSM (z-spec) 2.4 underdrive crank pulley?
so you guys are saying... that i can use my aem alt, and my rsm underdrive crank, and my charging system will be that of stock?
i dont see how aem can claim that their alt pulley frees up hp, when its acctually OVERDRIVEN, so wouldnt that acctually SPEED up the alternator?? and taking MORE hp to spin it?
im talking in terms of stock crank pulley AND the aem pulley for this question...
because it seems to me that if you do this, your alt. will acctually spin FASTER, creating a better charge-faster...and acctually taking away some hp.
It will be close. The AEM was designed to work with the unorthodox under-drive pulley.
Yes it will spin faster with a stock crank pulley.

well shiver me timbers... i had no idea, i guess i shoulda researched a tad better eh? lol
sorry md ld9... i wont be needing your pulley now
but, of course... i do always have my other car... so i might get one for it.
ok i am just going to throw this out there to you all that the AEM alternator pulley was built to run independent from any other pulleys. meaning that it can be used on a car with out anyother pulley up grades. so you dont have to buy the other stuff IF u dont want to. i do my research to. and also i put it on and have no other pulley upgrades and it works just fine.
i just dont understand how using it without anything else would do any good whatsoever...
i mean, its at least twice the size of stock, so its gotta weigh at least close to the same as the stock pulley, if not more... so u wont gain anything there.
and its overdriven...so it spins the alt. faster than stock, creating more parasitic loss, so how can it acctually "help" anything at all?
see now that is kind of the stuff that i was looking for
