Hey guys, my friend and I are about to swap over the ecotec motor to a 97 z24. I wanted to get the wiring harness in first. Will there be anything in the dash that i will have to change to make this work? I know i need the ecu and trans ecu, but will i need a new guage cluster or ne thing? all help would be great

engine/tranny/axles/ecu/racknpinion/exhaust mani/downpipe/radiator/engine harness/body harness/gas lines/gas tank/cluster/dash/ac/ and some more im not even thinking about right now

Well I'm not 100% sure if the isuzu axles will work on a getrag or not. We always swap the axles (that way everything is equally as new). The dash is not needed to be swaped, but some minor changes might need to be done to make the 2000+ cluster to fix right in the pre-2000 dash. Rack and pinion does not need to be swaped either.

You pretty much have to change all wiring in the car to 2000+ wiring. There is a couple different post on this site in regards to this. I know I have posted it up on what needs to be done. Also since you have a pre-2000 cavy, you will need to hard wire the 2000+ headlight harness to your pre-2000 headlights. The pre-2000 headlight harness will not plug into the 2000+ engine bay harness. It is not really hard to do (unless you plan to swap to 2000+ headlights.

as far as the dash im pretty sure you only need the cluster, not sure about the AC, but i dont care because im not using it... Gas tank we have already determined that unless you have a 00+ plastic tank you have to swap to a 00+ one. axles if you are going from auto to manual, and the rack and pinion sounds too far.

Also just so it is on here for people to read. The A/C systems are different. Of course the compressor's are different, but the more important part is the parts under the dash are different. Some are controlled buy vacuum, and some by hard lines (I think hard lines started in 2000).

For this case not using the A/C does not matter, but for publix knowledge. It only takes 3 bolts to be removed to remove the heater core/A/C assembly under the dash (once the dash has been removed).

So i just need the wiring harness, ecu and guage cluster currenlty correct? i just wanna get the inside done first so when i go to put the motor in everything goes fine. any other works or parts that need to be done? ty for the help guys

you can also get away with using ametal tank out of a 99 and not have to swap to a new plastic tank..You need a new rad as well. For the interior basicaly every wire you need...phil

When you say "every wire" can you explain? is there other wires besides what comes with the wiring harness? if so can i buy these wires or will i have to make them myself?

He means all wiring on the car. To keep from having to cut and splice wires you take all the wiring from the Ecotec car and put it in your car.
