2.3L replacement options?
Sunday, October 01, 2006 10:47 PM
So here is the deal. I have a '95 Sunfire GT. There is some kind of problem with the head or the head gasket. The car over heats within 10 minutes of start up. Here is what I want to know. A guy at my dads work has an engine out of a 2001 sunfire, I believe it is a 2.4L. Could I swap this into my car with little to know mods needed? I don't know all the different engines but is the 2.4 in 2001 an ecotec or still a quad four? I have been looking for another 2.3 to do a straight swap but it's hard as there are limited numbers out there. I have never done an engine swap and thats why i would like to find the easiest one to do it with. He is asking around 700 bucks for the engine that has 80K kms on it. Also does anybody have a link to the quad four forum I used to have it but lost it. Any feed back would be great guys. thanks

well first let me tell you that the "easiest" swap is gonna be another quad4...your best bet performance wise is to find a quad4 HO and drop it in...itll bolt up all the same and you wont need to change any wiring..not to mention gain 30hp..but its your car
here is the link for future reference..let us know if we can help with anything else QUAD4FORUMS

hey thanks for the link. as for the 2.4L you don't think that will work? I'm guessing it will bolt into the same place, is there alot you would have to change on the wiring? I thought I had seen a list somewhere showing which cars had Quad four HOs in them. I think one was a beretta. I'm not really doing it for the performance, but more to just get the car running again.

the 2.4 will bolt in too..and will even bolt to the trans i believe...but dont be surprised if you have to change wiring..depends on what year 2.4 i believe...maybe someone else can help you there
