I am looking for a good cold air intake for my 04 cavalier. someone told me to buy the parts and build mine. i was looking at the AEM one, but the auto parts store by me wants 300 bucks for it. wondering if there is one a bit cheaper or better for my car for the same price.
All are practically the same. Just get a cheap one from ebay that fits the ECO and get a K&N Filter.
ok thanks. don't try to build my own?
i personally went with an AEM, it was about $150 or so, and later upgraded to the Dryflow filter. better flow and filtering ability than any K&N, and better design IMO.

You can build one if you like...all they are are 2.5-3" ID mandrel bends of aluminum piping. But if you are thinking about spending over $100 on an intake, you can just get a $30 one from ebay and replace their filter with a K&N...I didn't replace mine and it has worked fine.
I have one similar to this, but I have cut mine down due to the HO manifold ---

If your really worried about the intake getting hot and heating up the air coming in, then just take the ebay intake and spray it with bed liner. It is heat resistant and really durable. It don't look the best though not shiny or anything. I would go that way if you are worried about performance any. Unless you want it for looks like alot of ppl do then just go with the ebay intake and keep is polished up. It will work just as good as any other.
My car has two speeds, fast and faster.
