what can i do to get alot of HP out of my 99 cavalier 2.2L 3 speed Auto. anyone with help please let me know. I'm hoping to make around 350HP if thats possible any replies are appeciated
thanks brian
Either...
A. Use the Search button, and learn to research (a great deal in this case)
or
B. Push your car over a cliff and buy a Vette
lol, it would be hard to make 350 hp with a turbo even..i have a 99 sunfire SE auto...just like urs, im sellin the pos for a 99 GSX eclipse
, id say get rid of it, and get a Z24 or a GT 5 speed.. go for the 2000 - +, it has the getrag tranny(Y)
sell the car for something faster. or do a ecotec swap and install a turbo and turn up the boost
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!

Not really worth it but if your like me it will be in the end. Just start out by buying a junk yard motor and start replacing everything and getting the head ported and polished with a valve job. Then slap a turbo on there and start turning up the boost. I would suggest since you have an auto to get the high stall torque converter, get a shop to make solid trans mounts or make your own, also get some built cv joints.

Cavie Freak gave you a good start.
Engine swap(repair-rebuild-reuse - "choose wisely" which engine you want), Swap what needs to be swapped, if your trying to go with cheaper mods, then start from the bottom and work your way up ...intake,exhaust,blah,blah,blah... Most say that the cheapest mod for HP is Nosage. But beware, if you dont do it right, then look for another junkie engine as a spare. If you got the time and money, a turbo is in your future.
Or... you can be some of the few who'll work with what you already have. But dont expect the 350hp + range. You'll stick around the 250hp+ range. Dont get me wrong. If you know what your doing, expect it to be even higher.
HP is as far as your MIND and WALLET can go.

Be one of the few and proud turning the biggest turd motor into a monster. I am in the works already designing one that should push 300+ but it will take time and losts of money.

ok thanks u to all the people who have helped so far but my car has about 73,000 miles is it worth the time and money to rebuild i don't want to get a new car that fast i want to be able to say i built that car so yea so far i have I'd say 2.25" or 2.5" dual cat back exhaust so whats next if its worth rebuilding
thanks

or is it better and cheaper just to get a ecotec engine and slap a turbo on it and some NOS?

That is a typical newbie/ ricer suggestion, but I will answer it. If you want 350+ whp from any of the J-body motors, you have to build the motor right. You can't just throw the engine in there slap on a 60-1 or 20G run a 100 shot wet nitrous and expect to make it down the track even once. You have to:
-build the bottom end (forged connecting rods, pistons and main studs)
-build the top end (stiffer springs, ss valves, head studs).
-adjustable fuel pressure regulator
-get 440cc or larger injectors (maybe a venom fuel rail too)
-Hp-tuners software or standalone fuel management
-Large enough turbo to support that kind of power
-among
MANY other things
I have over $3K invested in my motor, and that is without a turbo or fuel management. In no way is it cheap to make that much power from our cars.
No offense bro, but if you have to ask these questions, you are currently not ready to make that kind of horsepower on a J-body... period.
Again... Its all up to you.
Cheaper is the engine swap, turbo and Nosage and the right to the term "average cavi tuner" (even thoguh its not average at all)
But you can be on of the RARE to make a so called crappy motor w/70k+ miles on it into a rebuilt Monster (as cavie freak stated). Rebuild it, tune it, upgrade, bore it out, stronger parts, gut it,....etc. Skys the limit.
Ill say it again-> HP is as far as your MIND and WALLET can go.
Let us know your progress. Good luck
