I would say no paint.... do this (this is my engine bay)
the CF engine cover you can get through Karo carcustoms.net
looks nice.. i'm not a huge fan of it though.. but still looks sick..
I have a buddy who owns a metal finishing shop, they do anodizing, chroming and all that junk..so he's going to do my ecotec valve cover in black anodize...
Here's mine....not the best pic, but oh well.. It's powdercoated red---that's right, not painted, powdercoated (which I will be doing myself here soon).
thx alot guys...i think i might go with something like red04cavy's....

Powdercoating is your friend. but the darker the color the more it will pull the lines in the cam cover out showing the weld and cast lines in the cvoer. Personal opinion is polish the clear powdercoat, or go with a lighter color Black is bad, red is so so.
I'm powdercoating mine black soon...ordered a spare from ebay, gonna sand it all down nice and smooth...i'll post pics when it's done.
I love the way mine came out
Good luck with what ever choice you make.
powder coat for the win...

If you smooth it out before coating, you can eliminate that. That is what I did with mine, although I must admit, it ended up being by accident.....I had started polishing and just decided i had enough sanding and got it coated. The guy I took mine too blasted it first to clean it up, which also helped smooth it.
And powdercoat is definitely the way to go as it holds up better than anything else. The thing i like is the array of colors available and the effects you can do with PC that are just like paint.
This is why I am in the process of gathering the tools and whatnot that I need to start powdercoating myself.
Once I get the stuff and get started, I will post somewhere on here (with Dave's permission of course) and give the JBO a chance to get some valve covers and whatnot done up.
Here is an example of the color I thought about going with at first:
I had mine powdercoated. People still stare.
Oops! Forgot to add this.
