Ok guys I am in the process of shopping for a header. And from my understanding the 4-2-1 header gains power through out the rev band with no sacrifice of low-end. So a 4-1design is a no-no for me.
Some say that our cars flat in top-end even S/Ced (which I kinda disagree), but the 60mm TB will fix that one, once I see how Mantapart works out.
So the large TB and a 4-2-1 header i think will give more oomph through out the rev range.
Oh BTW I am going from 2.5in to 2 1/4in pipe through out the car.
So my questions are... .
-What kind of options do we have?
-What are your opinions on the 4-2-1 header if you own one?
-Can I "bolt on" the Hi-Flow Cat or do i need to cut & weld?
-How difficult was it to install (relocate anything)?
-What do you all recommend?
Thanks

i cant answer them all but i can answer some due to the fact my dads a mecanic and does some exhaust stuff.
1. ? dont know exactly
2. ? dont have one
3. on our cars we actually have two cats (well my old 2200 did ) if your going to replace the intire tubing it will be easy to re install the cat. choose your header, make all the stuff you need and get it to the point of were the cat will be. Now there is actually 3 opptions which each shop will/can do. You could flare the end closest to the header on the cat slide it over the tubing and use an exhaust clamp .... you could just butt connect them and weld them ... or you can flare the end of the cat closest to the header and weld it. me personally would flare and weld. just because ive done some of the stuff and i dont care for the exhaust clamps. you can choose that one.
4. should be derect bolt on ... but dont quote me on it ... i dont have one
5. hope some one else can fill this in.
sorry im not alot of help. but there is some info!
get the pacesetetr end of story its a 4-1 but you wont notice a much of a difference, on the low end that is.
I had the rk sport header for my car and switched to the apcesetetr and noticed a decent gain all over the power band...

i got the 62mm t/b. isuzuperformance.com 4-2-1 header, 45inch 2.5inch glasspack, some rk single exhause 2.25inch mandrel bent over the axle, and 2.5inch dynomax muffler. i fricken love it.
^^^ wow, that exhaust system really changes size alot, lol.
TRS is in development of a racing header for the TC 4-1 or 4-2-1 not sure how long, but it should be a performer.
^^Ty people...
I forgot to mention, if any one has pics of theirs too.

DCSport FTW! i love mine, kept my low end, which is excellent with higher RPM mods (TB Cams etc).
TRS Header Info
Here's the info and some pics of what it will kinda look like.
I gotta admit, the isuzu header sounds good, but it is a bit much. TRS' header looks like a no joke piece, nice.
The DC header looks really good, but if i remember right (correct me if I am wrong) but the 02 bung is on one pipe and not on the collector. (?)
What do you guys know about the 4-2-1 RKS header?
Some I'm reading "offroad use" is that because of the no cat?
"Rawkfist" gave a good idea for the cat. Are you guys running with one? And if so which are you using.
I want to get a lot of input on this as this is not a cheap piece and thanks for your inputs.

ya my header is expensive, but it posted the most proven gain (12whp that i seen at the time. had it for 5 years now.
Id like to get in on that TRS header for the 2.4.
Damn fitment issues.
But I think the Pacesetter header will be good in terms of the least headaches.
DC sports second choice.

Remember....syringes go in the RED waste basket.
I have the 4-2-1. It pulls really hard from around 2500 to around 4500->5000. However I really don't think the cars ECU likes it. its flat till around 2500, and from 5000 or so on its flat. However in autocross I never have to worry about not having torque so it fits my application because the power is right where I need it and can use it.

Jake, yhea I see IP header gives good power, but I see they were coparing to the RKS too and IP gave more power. But I wonder if they compared it to the 4-2-1. I say that because when the dyno was done, I don't think the RK's 4-2-1 was available. Would you know anything on that?
Either way it is a very nice piece but pricey.
Mastin, when you say least headaches, what do you mean? i am hearing this to often. Fill me in on the info.
Rascal, which header you have? Would you have any pics of it? Tell me more on the ECU not liking it to much?
Nobody has the RKS one. So far that is the one i am looking at the most, also if i get it. Any results or opinion?

the old ass rk 4-1 header was what was dyno'd against IP.
I STRONGLY suggest the pacesetter... I dynod MORE whp across the bored with the pacesetter then I did the rk 4-2-1 header

i felt that my pacesetter opened up a LOT of power all across the s/c powerband. it opened up surprisingly more than i expected. then again, you're not considering pacesetter.

To be honest....... our cars have a great low end to them. I had a 4-2-1 on my 2.2, and it worked out great and all. But the low end on the j-body cars is good enough, that I wouldnt worry about the sacrafice from running a 4-1.
Just to give you another option, how about making your own? Get your
header flange from Karo and contact
Headers by Ed for the rest. Headers by Ed is one of the best for custom headers. They may not make them for our cars, but they can give you the directions and parts for header primary diameters and length and get you a much better collector for the best match to your powerband. You will need to be able to weld or know someone who can.
I was going to make my own, but have decided just to remove the inefficiant collector from the PS header and replace it with a more efficiant one from them. While I'm at it, I'm going to add some length to the primary tubes. Fitment wont be an issue for me, because of the exhaust exiting the front side of the motor (2.2L). I'll be adding a flex joint to make up for the ball & socket collector to absorb the torque movement of the motor (I already have the motor mounts/inserts to reduce the motor's torque movement).
That sounds good.^ But i rather have something engineered by a pro company.
Any one with the RKS one?

Hey,
I have the RK Sport 4-2-1 header. It works awesome. I've had it for awhile now. Specially around 4000rpm it picks up really well. When I added the 62mm TB, I found much more pull on high end and I didn't lose any low end torque either. The header is way too expensive I'd admit, but it was probably the biggest noticable gain I've had so far.
"FRIENDS DON'T LET FRIENDS DRIVE STOCK"
TY man... Did you notice a gain under 4000rpms?^^^
Also people with the LD9 and RKS 4-2-1 i need some input too?
