Hey, got a quick question . . .
I posted a couple weeks ago that I was going to go full-out exhaust. I was going to go with a Borla muffler, good piping, new paceheader, etc. I wasn't sure if I needed a Hi-flow cat or what not, but thats not really the question . . .
I was checking with my parts department at my dealership to see if they can order a Borla system for my car on my discount, and they asked why. They claim that "cause its a 4 cylinder thats pushing good power for its size already", that the most I'll get is about is a 2-5hp gain . . . Does that make any sense?? How can getting a good paceheader, bigger piping and a better muffler, do such a small gain when companies say you can get anywhere between 10-20hp gains?? I do want a better sound for my Cavy, but if the most I'm going to get is about 5hp, that just isn't worth spending about $500 on . . . Any insight about gains on aftermarket exhaust?
full exhaust should get about 10 horsepower, but nobody hasent really dyno'ed any gains of stock vs. full exhaust.
Companies say that you'll gain x amount of power just to sell product. In reality, gains are much less than what they "advertise". Consider yourself lucky if you gain 10 horses from a full exhaust.
I had intake, header, and full exhaust with highflow cat, and underdrive pulleys. I dyno'd my 2200 at 115hp and 130trq. So I basically I would say its about a 15-20hp gain just from pulleys.

115 hp and 130 torque after that stuff was on??? i hate to tell you but those are the stock numbers for a 2200.

everyone seems to start engine mods with intake and exhaust, so lets say u did a cold air intake (lets shoot high and say $200), header (e-bay definately lets u get a stainless header for around $200), cat-back ($250 on e bay again) so thats $650 for lets say a whopping 10 horses at the wheels IF THAT.....so lets say tripple that is $1950 well damn, why spend $650 on 10 ponies when u can spend tripple that on FAR more than tripple the power gain with a turbo kit... i mean, yeah intake and exhaust are good starting points (especialy considering most people just want sound over performance anyway... uhg...), but the gains-to-price ratio just isnt there compaired to just turboing the damn car

Well putting on an exhaust and intake are simple mods that aren't really all that much money. A turbo kit is say $2500+, you toss your warranty, you put a lot of strain on the engine and end up needing to buy rods, pistons, etc so you don't blow up the car, lol. I figure for putting over $500 for exhaust, the gain would atleast be 15-20hp. Sure, the gain from a turbo is awesome, but like I mentioned above, too much money for a starting point.
yes and you're going to need the exhaust done if you turbo it also otherwise its uneeded strain on the turbo so exhaust will be done reguardless might as well do it now.
