Intercoolers are made to cool down compressed (hot) air generated by a turbo, so if you dont have a turbo, youre not compressing any air, and you dont need an intercooler. Getting an intercooler for the look of it is not an option either, unless you like being laughed at.

To answer your question:

Yes you need a turbo in order to use an intercooler. Otherwise you will only be restricting air flow by making non-compressed air go through the intercooler.

no it was not for looks, it look as if it would do the job of a cold air intake which is on my car now but better. I dont want a turbo because i dont race and i dont need the extra attention from the cops because i already get enough for my exaust. Just curious. Thanx.

Sounds like you want something like this:

Not my cup o' tea, nor is it made for the cavalier/sunfire, but I'm sure you could make it work.

I put an intercooler on my 2004 Z24 and it added exactly 47hp and 87 ft/lbs of torque and I have a bone stock motor. I would strongly suggest buying the same model I bought:

Let me know how it works for you

He has an 91 cavalier with a hybrid 2.4/2.2 ecotec motor...N/A and intercooled..I can vouch for the car being uber fast..I'm guessing with some carbon fiber and weight reduction it could be even with the boostang.

never under estimate the carbon fiber

yes it can be done. its not very practical because you can do alot more with the same power boost for less cash. but if you really wanted to you deffinately could.
