will i have any problems when swaping the complete 2000 2200 engine/tranny (4spd) set up with ECU into a 96 cavalier with 3spd???
i know i have to change the complete engine harness, but does the engine harness also have the headlight harness in it? will the 00 ECU be compatable with the 96 BCM? or will that need to be changed too? will my guages in my 96 (with tach) still function normaly with the 00 ECU?
and any other info that might help me out in this swap!
oh yeah, would have to rewire my Apexi SAFC for use with the 00 ECU?

I didn't get my headlight harness for my 2200 to work even though i changed the pins to match the 2200 anyway. but if your going to use headlights you can always tap off the 2200 Headlight harness for the 9006 and 9005 plugs you already have. if you replace all the wiring and computers in the car then its easy to do a 95-99 headlight conversion.
Ok NO the Pre 2000 headlight harness WILL NOT plug into a 2000+ engine harness. The connectors are different. You can make a 2000+ headlight harness run pre 2000 headlights.
If it had me doing this swap I would have just swap the motor and still used the 3 speed tranny and the 96 engine harness. With you using the 2000+ wiring and ECU and tranny you are going to run into other issues. Also you do not have a BCM in a 96 car. BCM's started in 2000.

^ what I was saying is if you take the existing 95-99 harness and try to plug it into the 2000 engine harness its not going to work. i tryed rearranging the pins and when i turn my headlights on the windshield washers go. lol
its easy to do a 95-99 headlight swap from a 2000 and it would work perfectly if you tap from the 3 wire

the reason is cuz i blew the tranny, and i might as well up grade to a 4spd tranny
[and my engine has well over 150K on it]
i have no problems about cutting up the 96 head light harness for the 2000 head light convresion.
but the question is, will the 00 engine harness plug into the 96 body harness with out giving me any kind of problems?

Again No it will not. You will have to hard wire the 2000+ headlight harness to your headlights. 2000+ had 1 bulb for both low and high beams (3 wires running this). Pre 2000 had 2 bulbs and 2 wires on each bulb. If a recall correctly the 2000+ headlight harness has 1 power and 2 grounds. 1 ground for low and one for high.

i alread know about the damn headlight conversion wiring i need to do on my 96!
but the other info i had ASKED! was about the engine swapping, NOT for just the headlights!!

I'm sorry for someone reason I say headlights. Becuase your car is a pre 2000 you do not want to use the 2000+ ECU. The 96 witing for the ECU is different than 97-99 and 2000+. You want to use your 96 ECU and wiring, and wire in the 2000+ injector plugs to your injector harness.

but remember this, the car is a 3spd, and i'm swaping in a 4spd tranny, so i will need to use the 2000 engine harness.

You will need a PCM and harness from a car with the 4sp. The 4sp is electronically controled while the 3sp is hydraulically controled. Your best bet here might be to get the PCM and wiring harness from a '96 with a 2.2L and 4sp, other wise there will be the need to do alot more cutting and splicing to get the 2000+ PCM & harness to work, let alone changing the gauge panel, because the '00+ cluster uses a digital odometer, instead of a mechanical like the '96 cluster.
well i have a 98 ECU from a 5spd which i can take to GM and have them reflash it for me, i'll just have to hunt down a 95-98 2.2L 4spd engine harness.
