Oil pressure issue :(
Friday, July 14, 2006 9:24 AM
Ok so today was the first day I got the cav out with the oil pressure gauge hooked up. Upon start up it read about 50psi then about 25psi when it was almost at operating temp. Well after a quik drive I noticed it was about 5psi at idle and not it wont go over 5psi even under boost!

I have the sender pluged into the side of the head using a remote mount stainless braded line kit from autometer. You all think i need to ground the sender with something else? Maybe the sender is bad? maybe the gauge is bad? it worked when i had a 2200 .

The car is full of oil so no worries there! And i realy dont think its the oil pump.

Upon start up mine it reads about 75psi then about 50psi when it was almost at operating temp, Then after about 20 mins of drive, its sits at 25psi most of the time.

Boost will have little effect on your OIL pressure. (What i been told)

Sounds like your sender is about 25 psi off.

Check grounds with ohm meter, making sure good contact.

Mine is grounded to the Firewall. I used a pipe clamp mounted to metal which is then screwed to the firewall.

I think I put a pic on your website of where I mounted mine.

I check OHM reading from sender to firewall and it was less then .01 i do beleive.

OH one more thing, also check your ground on the meter.

Also OHM out the sender cable. Might have a bad cable, but I doubt that.

I always OHM everything before I install. Just the electronics back ground I guess.

i have the exact same problem!

http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=64&i=5372&t=5372

i have not found a solution

but like you when i start my car it reads 50 psi and then for the rest of the time it reads 25psi.... i wish i could get it to work

in my friends 350z it is constantly changing, and mine sits at 25 no matter if im at WOT, IDLE or hitting 10 psi of boost... i dont think thats right, theres no way thats right.... i am going to try different grounds, im hoping thats the problem

Acer -- Mine stays at 25 most of the time once the car is warm. WOT might bring it up to 30 but thats about it, then it settles back down to 25.

What port you got it tapped into?

Ok this is getting old!

I have everything hooked up right, have the sender grounded, and line ran from the side of the head. I already tested another sender with the same results. Is the port on the side of the head just not a good pressure spot?!

thats what im starting to think....

i have mine here null

i tried to fix this yesterday thinking it was my ground, i wired the ground to the battery, chassis, strut tower and still nothing... i know everything is hooked up right, i triple checked it... i am starting to think this oil pressure spot is not good... i kno the one next to it is good or my turbo would have blown by now...

i just want to see my oil pressure

like i said before, it starts at 50, drops to 25 and never moves again. ???

fixed mine, removed the remote mount setup and mounted the sender to the side of the head. I then used a hose clamp to pull the engines ground strap onto the sender. its working great now.

Use a mechanical gauge vs an electrical gauge... should give you a much better reading and less problems with something failing.....
