04 Cavalier + 2.0L cobalt Supercharged Engine

Does anyone know if I can put a 2.0L supercharged cobalt engine in my 04 Cavalier? My 2.2L ecotec got flooded with water and the insurance company is paying for a replacement and I was wondering if this engine would would with no mods or very little

Why would it not? Its a destroked 2.2L eco. Should fit the same way your old engine did.

You really need to start giving proper info.

As far as i know, its the same engine, just destroked. Which coincides with previous information on the org, By you, and several So-called experts in the field.

Do a search, you will find more then sufficient info to prove BOTH WAYS.

Well, I have done some searches and havn't really found to much either way.

No one has taken a 2.0 and put it in there cavi? Would I need to get a tranny from the cobalt or would the my tranny work with it?

It IS a destroked version of the 2.2, but I never said it would fit. Its also a fly-by-wire engine, so the amount of mods just to get the PCM, pedal sensors, etc into the engine bay means it doesn't "fit like the old engine".

OP-
Yes, you would need the 2.0 transmission, axles, and then figure out a way to get it to work in the cavalier since the cobalt is wider than the J's.

I'm sure you COULD use the regular 2.2 eco getrag, as the bolt pattern will be the same, and it's designed for use in the J-body, but no LSD, and not as strong, different gear ratio's, etc. The real problem to work around is the throttle by wire, as shifted said.

There is more to it then you want to deal with, including changing the oil pan so you can have a lower mount, the Oil cooler will not fir with the cavalier transmission, a myriad of problems, just got done trying to do it, trust me put a fresh engine in and save for a SC kit.

use the search button , i really do not want to type out a box of info

NO YOU CAN NOT USE THE COBALT TRANS IN THE J-BODIES

do a search? search for what?

@!#$ retards, theres hardly any real info on this subject beyond what airtonics posted

to run the engine you need the wiring harness off a redline or cobalt ss as well as the PCM, then you can run the drive by wire TB, also you need a redline flywheel and clutch as the stock eco 2.2 does not bolt up, im told the tranny and axles work, not sure about motor mounts

sounds like you need the cobalt computers too cuz the crank sensor markings are different. Sounds like a LOT of trouble.

basically no one has done this swap yet. not that i heard of anyway. youd be the first

and besides you can get a 2.2 ecotec, put on a turbo and get more power out of that then you would from a Slowbalt SS motor

I'm going to bitch slap the next person who suggests using the search button. Until YOU have personally compiled a FAQ on a subject, just let it go. It's a new topic, that has never been done, it's assinine to say that all that can be said has already been said on a topic like this.

I have 1/2 of Cobalt motor in my Cavy well the head.
It is not that easy but not as hard as you guys are making it seem.
You simply use your intake manifold and your old TB and you don't have to worry about that damn drive by wire @!#$.

About the oil cooler I don't know if tranny would get in the way or anything, why would it.
Cam angle sensor does hit the brake master cylinder.
You need to modify the IDI cover to fit the head casue we cannot run sequential spark.

It might interfere that Cobalt LSJ bottom is a 60-2 and L61 is 7X crank wheel.
The way our ECU will try to pick it up.

Work around the tranny and make new axles. Big deal.
Any other questions.? lol

I believe you're better off just to get the GM S/C kit. Then you have a 2.2.... with boost, and it's not drive-by-wire.
