OK first off im sorry im sorry im sorry. Ive searched and found some post that are somewhat similar to what im looking for but not right on. Some one is selling a front clip from a 99 Z24. It has the full engine bay. My 96 Z24 is getting a little old and I was wondering what all is needed to get the 99 motor into the 96. From what ive read it looks like it should go right in.
Are there any egr issues? Can i use my tranny? Can i use my pcm and wiring harness? Heres a pic of the engine:
From the auction:
"vehicle was purchased right off of a used car lot a few months ago, and was immediately dismantled for use in a test program. The front has been removed, since we didnt need this part, and I am selling the entire front clip (NO SHEET METAL - i.e. hood, fenders, bumper) which includes the Engine, Transmission, Front sub-frame, Suspension, Steering (including rack and pump), and Brakes (no vac power booster), and all accessories including AC system (which worked great). The wiring harness is included, but was removed - note it was cut at the firewall when removed from vehicle, and it has the updated starter relay/wiring per the recall for these vehicles.
You get the starter and alternator (which is a Delco rebuilt), and the other accessories....and it looks like someone put a w/pump on it at some time.
It is essentially complete, EXCEPT FOR the PCM/engine computer, cruise unit, washer reservoir, and battery - which were all sold.
It even still has all the fluids in it (including new oil & filter from the used car lot). There are no wheels on it"
It is an auto. It only has 60,000 miles on it alot better then my 120,000. The auction goes down tomorrow so hopefully i cant get an answer soon if i should go for it or not.
So if theres anything i should know please tell me.
Much appreciation
Doesnt have egr, so you would have to use your exhaust manifold and egr setup to stay away from a check engine light, wouldnt hurt anything, you would just have a check engine light. The knock sensor is different. So you would need to drill out where the 99 sensor is, and tap it, put a helicoil in, and then thread in the 96 knock sensor. tranny would work no problem. PCM and WIring harness can be used no problem.
you use all your 96 stuff on the motor
no egr issues if you all the stuff from the 96
only thing you need to do is drill and tap the knock sensor larger , takes about 5-10 minutes
trans take your pick
also the fuel injectors are different.. but that might have started in 2000? just use your old ones and you're good.
just did 2 swaps this past year. its easy . 99 engine doesnt have a egr. you do not have to tap it . if u want a cheap way out buy a egr simulator it takes care of the light. and yes the injectors are different . you need to put yours in the new motor. one last thing you need to use your exhaust manifold because it more than likely is a different exhaust flange. not too positive on that part my swaps were out of a z24 to a grand am . good luck and if u need nehelp just holler .
PJ
same process if you want to use a 2k-2k2 engine. i am running a 2k motor.
also there's a sensor on your oil pan, so swap your 96 oil pan unless you want an oil light from time to time, from what I understand only 96 cars had that sensor. everything else has been answered for ya
my 99 has the new injectors
