hey guys..i cracked my radiator and ordered another used one from a junk yard..i just got it yesterday but something is differnt..the mounts are all the same..and the fan bolts up the same....BUT..there are 2 extra holes and i have no idea what they are for ..since they arnt even on my old radiator..i thought all 3rd gens were the same???
anyway..the one on the left is my old cracked one..the one on the right is the one i just got in the mail and is labeled "97 cav" can anyone tell me what those holes are for?? thanks
looks like the new one is out of an automatic
yep. It's from an auto.
It'll work just fine for your car.
so what do i do, just plug the holes? cuz i have nothing to put there.

Well, I have run mine without plugging the holes, it's been like that for a long time, it won't hurt anything except the threads may become a bit rusty. and i may not be able to ever use it again. (i have thought about using it as an oil cooler...)
If u don't ever want to use that, then don't even bother to plug it.
hmmm...oil coolerrr..sounds challenging,how might i go about That?
Well, you'd first need to get an adapter that goes on between the oil filter and the block. It will have two ports on it, where the oil will circulate out of the engine, then u would run it to those two radiator plugs, and then back to the adapter fitting. You'll probably need to run a bit more oil to account for it having to travel the distance from the oil filter to the radiator, but it should work since that is the transmission cooler for the automatic. It's just a form of oil anyways. Right?
I would maybe try to clean it out though, it may still have tranny fluid residue on it.
the trans cooler in the radiator is way to small for a engine
most engine oil cooler use 1/2" or larger lines , and the trans uses 3/8"
