Hmmm im not sure....my 01 z24 took my friends 02 eco, by 80 i was atleast 3 car lenghts away and all i have is intake and a turbo muffler

stock for stock they are close to equal (eco vs. 2.4) its preaty much a drivers race, manual trans and less wieght wins
eco weights a good 100 pounds lighter
first the eco was underrated.... seen at least one dyno 140 to the wheels, when that number is supposed to be the crank rating, and yes its lighter..
but last i checked, shouldn't a 2000 sunfire SE have a 2.2 OHV, not an eco?
I've seen a bolt on only 5 speed 2000 2200 whoop an auto 2.4, and hold against a bone stock 2.4 until 4th, but thats about it.

I don't know about the Ecotecs but I put my RS up against Z24s all the time. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose. It's all about the driver. All I have on my Ln2 is an intake, 1.6 rockers, exhaust, and a 5-speed. I MIGHT get an extra 10hp on a hope and a prayer and according to every LN2-hater here I should get spanked every time.

The Eco was not available in 2000, and I don't believe it was ever in a 2002 SE. Have your buddy open the hood, I bet dollars to donuts its a 2200.

What year of 2.4 are we talking about? Notice in 2000 and newer the 2.4 cars got quicker, stock, for some strange reason.
So if it was a pre 00 2.4 that he beat, I wouldnt be suprised.
I've raced a couple of times against my brothers Z24 with I/H/E... I only have intake....from a roll I used beat him by half car....of the hole he beats me by half to a car ( we did it at the track

I kind of caught it, figured he maybe swapped the Ecotec. It's not uncommon when you think about it.
i raced my friends 03 eco the other day in my 98 z24. he had header, B&M shift kit, catback exhaust.
i had motor mounts, intake and mine was a manual.
we raced.
i pulled on him a little here and there but he kept up. from a roll he was close but i pulled. from 40mph to 90 mph i was about 3 cars ahead.

yeah beat me to the 00' didn't come with eco. but even if the year is wrong and it did have an eco, what all does an SE come with. I've never payed attention since i have a z24 so its possible it comes with maybe no options which means it weighs less, and it could also have 14" steelies or maybe 15" steelies which would weigh less and also be a smaller rotational mass which would mean the car would be faster there to. and if what i just stated is not true, then the only other things i can think of off the top of my head would be differences in both of you as drivers, and maybe just differences in the cars specifically out of the factory (every car is different).
Goal is to make my N/A Auto faster then a manual without doing engine internals
The Sunfire SE can come with either a 2.2/2200, or the 2.4

No, all were rated at 150HP@5600 & 155TQ@2400-4400, although I wonder if GM ever bothered to re-rate the power when the 2.4L recieved 9.7:1CR instead of the earlier 9.5:1. 00 and newer 2.4L indeed got faster because of the adoption of the Getrag tranny and lower overall car weight.
