Modify cat
Friday, June 02, 2006 9:17 AM
Just wondering if there is any way to modify the stock cat from the 2.4. I know its against emmissions, but is their any noticable HP and torque gains for doing this if its possible? (keeping in mind full 2-1/4" exhaust with header)or am I just better off to buy a high flow cat?

another question somewhat on topic, flowmaster mufflers? good or no good?

thanks

Any "gain" you would get would most likely be vanishingly small. I'm with Paul. You want more flow you go with the high-flow cat. Gutting a cat = a no no.

Theres no point in it as the high flow cats now days flow 99% free anyway. Running straight pipe may net you a
1/4 to a 1/2 a HP and thats if your lucky.

Maybe if this were 1976 instead of 2006 I'd say sure but it doesn't do squat anymore.

Not a problem.

Flow Masters are LOUD !! I had a 40 series on my car for one week and had to get rid of it. But some people like that so to each there own I guess. Personialy I like Dynomax Turbo style mufflers best as they are free flowing and have matting to get rid of the resonance that the Flow Masters can't. In fact I've had dual Dynomax turbo mufflers on my car now for over a year and so far so good.

yeah like they said not much of a gain unless you put full exhaust on then the cat has smaller piping then the rest if the piping this means you would want a high flow to get the bigger piping ive heard of ppl liking there magna flow cats

i got rid of the cat and added a long thrush glasspack and a flowmaster super 40 series. the best setup I had. the sound (tone) of the exhaust was extremely low.
