HELP! with removing alt pulley
Sunday, May 28, 2006 11:39 AM
I'm replacing my alt pulley with a lighter aluminum one and I have the alternator off and ready to go, but I don't know which way to turn the bolt or the torx head bolt thing inside of the main bolt.!?!?!?!!!

It looks like this:

-----------------
/ \
/ /\ \
/ < > \
\ \/ /
\ /
\-------------------/

Do I hold it still with the torx and turn (loosen) the big bolt counter clockwise?

Any help ASAP would be nice...

I don't have an impact wrench. Can I still do it that way? Why the hell would they even put that damn torx head nut/bolt in there?
I'll go try to just holding the pulley.

What a P.I.T.A ! It turns out that the new pulley I have is slighter different that my stock one. so I am machining it down to fit. BY HAND!!! lol

I did weigh them just for the hell of it.
Stock .64lbs
Aluminum .21lbs

I wasn't kidding when I said I wanted te sqeeze every ounce of performance out if this car. lol

I'm almost done. hopefully it turns out ok and fits good this time.

Well, I forget where I ordered it from, but everything looks the same except for the little rings (offset) peice on the outside/back of the pulley. the diameter and ribs where the belt goes is spot on, but that little back peice is smaller than the one I got.

It's hard to explain, but... bottom line. it didn't fit at all.
