swaping cams from 96 to 98???
Sunday, May 21, 2006 6:27 PM
has anyone ever swaped a 96 2.2L cam into a 98 2200 2.2L block?

if so, was it a direct bolt on? was there any issuses with the ECU/CEL??

cause i'm in need of a new block, and found a 98, but i know the 98+ 2.2's have less HP then the 95-97's

iirc the '98 + is rated at 5 less hp and 5 more tq, which to me sounds like a better tradeoff for everyday driving.

The timing marks are machined into the cams for the cam position sensor. THIS SWAP WILL NOT WORK and I REALLY wish ny-jbodies would take it off the site.
If you want a performance cam, sent your PROPER cam to Crane and have it reground for $150 or so.

Oh boy, I hope you fully realize what you're getting into...There are things you won't see by comparing the headgaskets.

i was curious about the current topic myself. head swapping that is. i figured it was a pain if at all possible. i know the pushrods are different lengths along with valve geometry altogether. i figure it would be more work vs. benefits.

It's the only non-machining work-around for the top-feed injector problem. So, the cost vs benefit depends on your goals for the motor.
