Camaro muffler ??
Saturday, May 13, 2006 6:34 PM
Is there a 2 1/4" camaro style muffler? All I have found were 2.5" Will it even make a difference if the rest of the exhaust is 2 1/4" and the muffler 2.5". I mean that sound/noise wise, not performance. Im looking to have it as quiet as possible. Thanks in advance

you want the Flowmaster 40 series

it sits just like the Camaro muffler does...

i have installed on my SFGT for 2 years now and everyone loves how it sounds. the rest of my system is bone stock right now.
as far as i know i was the first or one of the very few that have this set up

its got a low rumble at idle.... 2-3rpm it has a great tone... the higher rpms it is louder but not "honda" like.

here is a pic of it... its not the best pic.. but you get the idea

The 40 series is one of the loudest Flowmaster makes... and not all mount that way.
I personally have the Magnaflow camaro muffler on my car and it does sound awesome... I have 2.5" header back. The only problem I have is that there is A LOT of internal resonance like the 40 series has...

If I have my sub on, and am listening to something bassy, the bass from the exhaust actually reinforces the bass from my sub and it seems like the sub is hitting harder... It's hard to explain but it was quite weird the first time it happened.

Here is a vid of the exhaust from the day I got it. I should make a new one as it has gotten a bit quieter since it has broken in...

our cars don't need that muffler and all it's going to do on your car is weigh your car down more in the back, where it actually matters

but if you don't care about performance, go for it

yeah what were you thinking... an extra what maybe 10 lbs!!! your cars gonna be the slowest thing on the planet, your gonna blow your trans cause its liek trying to tow a yaht with your car!! Especially with that weight added in the back.... you might as well just sell the car

that coming from the guy who has a 62mm TB on a N/A motor, again, why? all that extra air the motor now displaces due to the masize size increase you made?

I'm going to use that stlye muffler, since I will need a good sized muffler and want the reduced weight of one less muffler mounted under my car. Oh and I'm going with 3" front to back, then that muffler.

if that comment is dirrected towards me your preaty dense.... I don't think I could have added more sarcasm to my post if I tried. and FYI there is dyno proven power gains form the bigger TB on the eco's

me either.

you got to admit it got you going.

But I was right on my second part, I'd rather only have the one muffler than the two I have now, while keeping the two tips. save weight.

I presume you mean a stock 95-99 bumper... run a search in the Photos & Media forum for dual or just click here

the more weight you take off in the back, the better your suspension will be
i never mentioned the tranny
every pound counts when you go all out

oh and if the tb remark was to me.. it helped me out very much, my bigger cams really needed it

dude stop talking, do some research then speak.

Unless your car weighs about 100 lbs total the weight of a muffler will have absolutely no effect on anything. thats liek say oh god the cars gonna handle liek @!#$ and be slow because you have a textbook in the trunk. You simply don't knwo wnough to have a valid arguement here... if you noticed my post was way exagerated... anyone reading your first post that knows or thing or two about cars sees your first as exagerated as mine. Yes weight is bad, there is no argument there. Adding weight to the rear is no better or worse then the front, it varies form car to car, the idle sitation is 50/50 weight distribution. There isn't much weight to the rear of our cars (why do you think people relocate the battery to the trunk even when they don't need the space under the hood, its help distibute the weight alittle more evenly) so if I had the choice I would add it in the rear end regardless. Weight doesn't change the suspension of your car, suspension is made of physical parts.... no matter ow much wiehgt you have in certain places the parts are still the same parts. The handling will be affected by more weight, but an extra 5-10 lbs of weight at the lowest point of gravity you could possibly have on the car will make absolutely no difference in anything in the way the car performs.

Whats next are you gonna tell people to remove there factory spoiler cause it will make the car faster and there suspension better?

actually removing the spoiler does... just kidding

no it's just that my friend gave me his g35 muffler to store in my garage because he got an aftermarket one and he doesn't want his parents to notice, and that thing is mad heavey compared to my single muffler, so i was just assuming that a g35 muffler would be the same as a v8 camaro muffler and that's why i stated that the weight was bad, i'm not saying he's going to lose all his races, i was just telling him that if he wants to go all out then just stick with single

but yeah you're right, maybe i did overexagerate, sorry.. another rough week on the forum (not jbody.org, but houston-imports.com, everyone hates because i have a cavi)
